Duck-Billed Catechist
How in the hell did he get a no trade clause? It's some weird quirk in the rules. It's not a traditional no trade, it's just an automatic thing based on his contract status.

It's not a traditional no trade, it's just an automatic thing based on his contract status.Yup. Here's a paragraph from an ESPN story: Although Kobe Bryant is the only player in the league with a specific no-trade clause in his contract' date=' league rules dictate that players on a one-year contract -- but who spent the previous season with the same team and are thus eligible for Early Bird free-agent rights at the end of the contract -- cannot be traded without their consent. George, who earns $2.4 million this season, is one of 18 such players in the league at present, afforded the right to either approve or veto trades because those Bird rights are lost if they do get traded.[/quote']

John Smith
I think there are draft picks involved also. The Bulls possibly get a second rounder from the CAVs next year maybe.

Duhon was not part of the trade, evidently -- instead it was Griffin. The Cavs also get the Bulls' second-round pick in 2009.
LouisvilleGreg
http://www.nationalpost.com/sports/story.html?id=306436 im not going to read every one of these posts, but this is pretty recent news, nba european division within the decade, personally I love the idea, Id like to see 5 new franchises to make a 35 team league, with seven 5 team divisions, with 7 division winners making the playoffs with 5 wildcard teams, dump this east/west, ive never like the idea of seperate confernces, I think its outdated considering how many teams a pro sports league has now (with baseball being the exception, for oldtimey sakes) The league would be way too watered down with 35 teams. Think of how many awful players there already are. The only way this might work is if the bulk of the Euro portion is from Europe itself.

Not sure how often those teams would be over here.

benjamin
The Pistons were fantastic yesterday. That's what I'm talking about...... yet how do they stumble against the Bucks and Orlando? They should be dominating. Hope they get it together come playoffs.
MrRain422
They've been like this for the past couple of seasons -- they have a hard time with motivation sometimes, but when they are focused they're as good as anyone. I'm really excited about the young guys on the team. Amir Johnson, Aaron Afflalo, Rodney Stuckey and Jason Maxiell are all impressing the hell out of me. Jarvis Hayes too. If in a few years the starting line up is Stuckey, Afflalo, Johnson, Maxiell and Prince, I think they should be solid. The bench this year is contributing a lot more than it has in the last two years, and all of the starters are seeing reduced playing time, which should allow them to be a lot more rested come playoff time. That guy is possibly the most underrated player in the league. I'm not a Pistons fan, but I can't help but admire what they've done over the past several years. Virtually all of their personnel moves seem to work out in their favor.
MrRain422
Dumars has made a few boners (see: Darko) but for the most part he's been fantastic. The only other real mistake I can think of was that stupid Nazr Muhammed contract, and yet he managed to correct that by dumping him for two expiring contracts (and one of them -- Walter Hermann -- isn't even a scrub. He could really help the team if they need him). He seems to understand the salary cap better than anyone else in the league and knows how to make the right deals. LouisvilleGreg
I've been out of the loop for a week or two and haven't followed the scores so closely. Last night I watched SC and holy shit I had no idea the Lakers were so good, 10-1 since they got Gasol and Bynum is still out. My question is are they the team to beat in the west now, or will their overall lack of experience catch up with them in the playoffs?

If Kobe can spread a little, they will be dangerous.

tugmoose
Actually, I like to take credit for the Cavs getting LeBron, since it was my idea to have the Plain Dealer do a "Think LeBron" page to get all of Cleveland to will the draft lottery to go our way.
