PageTheSage1275
Now I play these bits while phrasing the chords...as opposed to just playing the notes individually. It is crucial that you kinda keep strumming as you're playing them, if it makes any sense. I've included the chords above each measure. capo 3rd fret ----D-------------------A---------------G-------------------e-----------------------------------------------------------B-----------------------------------------------------------G---2-----2---2---------2---------------0----0--------------D---2h4---4---2h4p2-0---2----5-4--2-----0h2--0------0-------A-----------------------0----0-0--0-------------0h2----0h2--E---------------------------------------3----3--3------3---- ---G-----------------------------D------------A-------------e-----------------------------------------------------------B-----0000--------------------------------------------------G------0----2-0---------------------------------------------D----------------2h4-2-----------0--------------------------A-----------------------0h2-0---------------0-0--------0----E--3----------------------------------0h2---------0--------- --Bm------------G--------------Em---------------G-----------e-----------------------------------------------------------B-----------------------------------------------------------G--------------------0---------0--0-------------------------D--------------------0---------2-----4---2--0---0-----------A--2-------0-------------------2----------------2-----------E--2---2--------3--------------0----------------3----------- ----D------------------C-------Em----G--------------D-------e---------------------------------------------------2-------B-------3-------------------------------------------3-------G---2------2---2-------0------------------0---------2-------D---2h4----2h4-2---0---0h2--0--2--0-----0-0h2p0-----0-------A----------------------3-------2-----2----------2-----------E----------------------3-------0-----3----------3----------- 4th measure is repeated after every other verse. jhc
awesome PS - if you want the chords to line up, you can use dashes instead of spaces like this -----D-------------------A-------------G e-----------------------------------------------------------B-----------------------------------------------------------G---2-----2---2---------2---------------0----0--------------D---2h4---4---2h4p2-0---2----5-4--2-----0h2--0------0-------A-----------------------0----0-0--0-------------0h2----0h2--E---------------------------------------3----3--3------3----

Moe_Syzlak
For timing: D/F#---------------------Asus------------GDo you still sing of the mountain bed we made of limbs and leaves G----------------------------------------------D/F#--------Asus----------A# (bass note only)Do you still sigh there near the sky where the holly berry bleeds Bm---------------------------G-----------------Em---------------------GYou laughed as I covered you over with leaves, face, breast, hips and thighs, -----D/F#------------------C-----------Em-------G-------------D/F#You smiled when I said the leaves were just the color of your eyes. trentasaurus
I need some help with this one. I don't really understand how the fingering works with the riff you've tabbed here. I get how the chords are strummed continually, but i the riffs dont sound right to me for some reason. Are you supposed to be hold down the D for example while you're doing that first riff with the hammer-ons? like the first riff is 002200 and then hammer on the 4, do you hold down the D in addition to that so it would be 002232 with like a flat index finger and pinky doing the hammer-ons? I'm sure these are stupid questions but i'm a newb and i can't figure out how to play this right!

Hey there, I'll try and film myself this weekend playing this for you focusing on my fretting hand, hopefully this will clear a few things up. Alex

Alex Thanks a lot, man! I'm getting the hang of some of it but a video would be great. I've been squinting at a video of JT playing this on youtube. -Trent
Guest Francis X. Hummel
I play a D with standard fingering then just bar the G & D string (D/F?) with the first finger and hammer-on with the pinky. D D/F -2 -2-3 -3-1 -1-0 -1-x -x-x -x Took me a while to get the pinky to make that movement, but once you get it trained, it's not too hard.
quosh
Hi there Trent, sorry this is late. Okay, so it's a little messy and not as visually obvious as I thought it might be for you but it's kinda' how Jeff plays it (apart from the 5-4-2-0 slide, Jeff fingers it slightly different). I'm not making excuses but it was tricky playing it a bit slower than usual and I didn't have a pick handy either so it's rough around the edges. If it's still a mystery I could maybe film my other hand for you sometime (with pick) and do a picture-in-picture? http://vimeo.com/4727230 I've capo'd it at the third fret, but you can do it at two (as per the record) if it suits you better... I've uplaoded it HD to vimeo because we all know youtube sucks technically in comparison... Alex
MattZ
cool stuff. Thanks Alex. I don't play it like that, but I dont think there's a right way (other than Jeff's way). Very interesting to see how others do it.

anthony
I update the wiki spaces with a slightly different version that (tries to) mirror the Farm Aide solo version. Comments / suggestion welcome. Remember The Mountain Bed
