Mixed Party Presidency...

Recommended Posts

if kerry could have gotten mccain to be his vp, he'd be president now without a doubt. this sort of ticket would only work if both candidates were not very partisan at all. we've had a few mixed ticket presidencies early on in the republic -- it didn't work out so well.

I don't think Obama will be ready for the O.O. about 2018 or so. By that time, all the racialists will be so upset at the burgeoning Latino population, a black president will actually look good to them.

Not going to happen, unless John McCain invites a Democrat onto his ticket.

That's a likely scenario, actually.I must say I wasn't too impressed with Steele OR Cardin in their debates...very negative & almost childish in the way they would interrupt each other.

I never understood the excitement that some people had for a prospective Kerry/McCain ticket in 2004. Democrats liked McCain because he seemed open minded and willing to go against his party. But they didn't really pay attention to the fact that he is a bona fide conservative. If Kerry/McCain had gotten elected, and for whatever reasong McCain ended up as president, he would persue conservative policies and the Democrats who elected him vice-President would feel betrayed, even though he'd just be enacting the same policies he'd been in favor of for his whole career.

Same thing would happen with any other mixed ticket. It sounds nice on it's face, but all that would happen is that all sides would end up unhappy with the results.

people seem to cling to the idea that a firmer embrace of the middle ground will provide an answer to our myriad problems.the truth is truly left or right candidates are unelectable as these elections are decided by the undecided middle....dependent upon undecided voters in one or two states. the two party ticket seems to embrace the falacy that core members of the opposite party will vote for a ticket with a member of the opposite party on it, thus ensuring victory.

I don't like the idea of a mixed-party ticket because in this bitter and polarized political climate, it's sure to result in the party of the vice president doing everything it can to force out the president. I'm sure plenty of people would say "no, it would be fine," but trust me, it wouldn't.

That's also why my first comment in this thread had to do with assassination.
