Hi, I'm a newbie...

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I'm a newbie, I bought YHF when it came out, gave it a couple of listens and put it on the shelf. Recently, I picked it back up, and I don't know what I was thinking when I put it down, I love this album. I got the Sunkin Treasure DVD a few days ago and been blown away. I've bought all the albums, but I'd like to make a best of to get started. Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. So far my favorite songs are IATTBYH, War on War, Ashes of American Flags, Hummingbird, Theologians, Shot in the Arm, Sunken Treasure, California Stars... please help.

Here's two songs you need from at least each CD, but in reality almost all songs on every album are awesome.

A.M.- I Must Be High

Passenger Side

Being There- Disc 1- Misunderstood

Outta Side/Outta Mind

Disc 2- Sunken Treasure

Lonely 1

Mermaid Avenue I- California Stars

Another Man's Done Gone

Summerteeth- Pieholden Suite

Via Chicago

Mermaid Avenue II- Airline To Heaven

Remember The Mountain Bed

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot- I Am Trying To Break Your Heart

Ashes of American Flags

Reservations (I cheated, but these three songs are the core of YHF)

A Ghost Is Born- Hummingbird

Handshake Drugs

Kicking Television- Disc 1- Jesus Etc. (its more soulful live)

A Shot In The Arm

Disc 2- Radio Cure

Spiders (Kidsmoke)

Comment (you need a cover song in a best of collection)

if you bought all the albums, i'd say take a listen to them all, pick yer faves and make your own comp. everyone has different tastes and the albums all have different styles on them.

eg:

(thats not the issue -> too far apart)

(monday -> lonely 1)

(my darling -> shot in the arm)

(heavy metal drummer -> reservations)

(i'm a wheel -> less than you think)

:thumbup

welcome along....

Seconded. I would never pick Pieholden Suite or even Mountain Bed for one of my two choices off Summerteeth or Mermaid Ave. Your own conception is the best way to go. Take your time and listen to each album one at a time for a few days. Maybe in the order they were released. Again, it's all up to you, my friend. Welcome to Wilco world.

Songs I would recommend (two from each album in chronological order): Casino Queen, Passenger Side, Monday, Someone Else's Song, At My Window Sad and Lonely, One by One, How to Fight Loneliness, Via Chicago, Airline to Heaven, Secret of the Sea, All of YHF, especially Jesus, Etc., but especially all of YHF, At Least That's What you Said, Wishful Thinking.

A Ghost is born is very easy to listen to at first. Almost all the songs are catchy e.g. Hummingbird, Handshake Drugs, Theologians, Late Greats.

Another point to consider is getting some live stuff. You can find a lot of shows out there that are easily downloaded.

Check out the torrent site here.

Also check out www.rbally.net he posts some live shows every now and again (mp3 format) Think theres one from 2004 on his site as we speak.
