misslaura
I know Billy Bragg sings it on the record, but why has this song only been played once? It's such a fun song and it would be so great live! Does anyoone else wish they would bust it out every once in a while?
caliber66
I think you've pretty much answered the question. It's a fun song, but it's one Billy wrote the music for, so Wilco doesn't play it live.
napoleon
i love this song. i think it would be a great song for golden smog to play when they tour.

cryptique
I'm going to go out on another limb and say "because he really likes what Wilco did with it and he enjoys playing it." Also: I've heard it, and while it's not as good as when Jeff sings it, it's not bad.

myboyblue
I was at the show where Wilco played this. The last show at Lounge Ax. Absolutely hilarious. Their roady at the time played the part of Billy Bragg complete with the accent. Still one of the top 10 Wilco shows.
napoleon
could someone uploads brag's version? i'm intrigued.

HighFives
I wish Wilco and/or Jeff would play The Unwelcome Guest. Assuming they have not. I don't really know for sure.

napoleon
Walt Whitman's Niece jesus, that sounds like something you'd hear on a train ride at disney world.
FourStrongWinds
whats the dead with Bragg and Tweedy, i heard they had a bit of a falling out during the records?? ive always thought Billy's a very underated writer
LouisvilleGreg
Wow! I haven't heard Bragg doing "California Stars," but I can't imagine it sounding anywhere near as awful as Wilco doing "Walt Whitman's Niece." And was that Jay Bennet who yelled out "he said seaman (semen)?" Truly horrible.
