Wilco LP #7
From what I've heard so far, the new stuff has very direct, and basically less poetic lyrics than what I've come to expect from Tweedy. Nothing exactly matches "Hide your soft skin, your sorrow is sunshine Listen to my eyes," just to name a beautiful lyric off the top of my head. Anyone agree?
OOO
"If you like singing a songand you want other people to sing alongJust sing what you feeldont let anyone say its wrong" I think part of the theme of the album is going to be that simple can be beautiful. quarter23cd
I think part of the theme of the album is going to be that simple can be beautiful. Agreed. Personally, I've always felt that Tweedy is at his best when he is most direct. That quote above from "Company" is an interesting reference-point because, to me, those lines work better in print than they do when set to music...and I kind of find that to be the case with a lot of his more abstract lyrics. Not knocking his writing at all, and maybe I'm just admitting to being a big dummy whose mind can't multi-task enough to extract the poetry from the music, but sometimes when the lyrics get more cryptic I swear he might as well just be singing "la la la doo be doo" because all I hear are sounds. (I think my mind tends to focus more on the instruments, anyway)
aricandover
Jeff Tweedy addressed this topic back at the 1/25/2006 Abbey Pub show.
you ever seen a ghost? TheMaker
I think part of the theme of the album is going to be that simple can be beautiful. Yes. Beautiful. But seriously, don't let anyone change your bag.
coast to coast
Ah we'll see. "Once in Germany someone said 'nein' " is pretty hilarious, so I wouldn't be worried.
bobbob1313
Remember when that one guy used to come on here and say that "I'm A Wheel" was like Sesame Street? And then he said he would do an orchestral reprise of Hummingbird if he was Jeff Tweedy? I miss him.
