KevinG
I generally don't like to post negative comments in threads, but you asked for it. The question I have for y'all is, "do the Beasties Boys matter any more?" There was a time when popular music seemed to rise and fall with what they did. Now I think time as exposed them for the one note act they really are. Don't get me wrong they made some great music (Paul' Boutique being one of my favorites), but TT5B was an awful attempt at anything remotly interesting. The lryics are quasi - political rants that make the songs to serious and suck the fun out of songs and the band. When did we ask the Beasties to save us? And musically it was no better then License to Ill which they made when they were teenagers. I would like to bring up the case of the SNL skit Lazy Sunday, which I think really showed us how lame the Beasties have become. Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell did a better job of doing the "Beastie Boys" then Beasties did with TT5B. I do not have high hopes for this album, mainly cause in the press release they used "sick" way to many times. It might show that yes they are gonna bring the fun back to their songs, but it worries me that they slamed the same joke a dozen times in jsut a few words. It makes me think they have just lost the creative spark that made them so great.
dixiecupdrinker
I generally don't like to post negative comments in threads, but you asked for it. Who asked for it? I didn't, but thanks for the insightful comments, anyway. Even if nobody did ask for it, you bring up some good points. But, even if they aren't "relevant" anymore, they had a pretty good run of albums.

I believe the sub title to this post is "bring on the 'they're so old...they suck...who?' posts." So to me that pretty much says, "hey I want to hear your comments on why this new album is gonna suck." Or atleast that is what I read at 2:30 in the morning.

Sir Stewart
Damn right. If anything, they've regained their sense of humor in the past few years and make me laugh more than ever. (Yes, the political rhymes are weak as phuck, but what the hell)
KevinG
Geez, simmer down, Kev. I said you had some relevant points. I didn't mean to come off as bitter, I just wanted to let you know where I was coming from. Plus I have been up working since 2:30 am already and my brain is fried so I might come back Monday and look at this post and say WTF? The overarching sentiment in my post is that TT5B was a major disappointment. I will listen to the new album, but I am not holding out hope for it. Hey I might be suprised. I'm just giving ya a hard time, man. I totally agree with you about TT5B being a disapointment. I wish they'd stop trying to be so political and get back to having fun, too. paul137
Have any of you ever heard any of the Adrock solo shit? He had BS2000, which I though was decent. I have the vinyl and am not sure they ever released any of that on CD. If not, maybe I'll digitize that, too. I saw him a few years back at the Magic Bag or the Magic Stick, can't remember which. He also had that side project punk band, but I can't remember their name. That wasn't so great. I haven't heard anything from DJ Hurricane lately, either. The first Hurricane disc, "The Hurra" is fookin' good, the second one "Severe Damage" had some good tracks, too. That last one, "Don't Sleep", not so hot. In trying to think of some other Money Mark shit, he had a track on "Handsome Boy Modeling School" with Sean Lennon. I think it was called "Sunshine" or something, but that was good. Money Mark was also on the Mixmaster Mike album "Anti-theft Device" for a track that was "sick", as the kids say nowadays. Speaking of Kid Koala earlier, I have a 45 of his band Bullfrog that was pretty awesome, but because I'm at work and can't access my records, I can't think of what it is called. Fun shit. Sorry for rambling... dcdthe bs2000 show was at the magic stick and it was a lot of fun. i really like the song do the side to side.

Thanks for refreshing my somewhat hazy memory... Did you see the Beasties when they played Cobo Hall last time? What, two years ago maybe? That was a good show. I've also seen them at the Palace when they toured for "Ill Communication" and before that at Cobo for maybe Check Your Head? Maybe both shows were in support of Ill. I shouldn't have smoked so much pot back then. It fucks up my concert-going memories. The first time at Cobo, Bad Brains were supposed to open, but couldn't because what's-his-name went to jail for assault. This was right around "The Hurra" cd release because I remember Hurricane doing "Stick 'Em Up" and "Elbow Room". Actually, come to think of it, I think the last Palace show was in support of "Hello Nasty". I also saw Hurricane DJ at a rave thrown by my friends at Paxahau sometime between then and when Severe Damage came out. Fuck... I need to dig some ticket stubs out and figure out when I did what... dcd

Yeah, that sounds about right to me... Where in MI are you from? Oh, I just realized you probably aren't, but I assumed you meant you saw a show at Cobo or at the Palace in '92.... Sometime in the fall of '92 I saw them at the Roseland Ballroom (Rollins Band opening) in NYC. That closed the book on the Summer of Beasties - 4 shows in 3 states in 3 months. Good times. At Rocky Point Amusement Park in RI! One of the best days ever. A ticket to the show got you access to the park all day, so the place was just swarmed with stoned Beastie fans soaking in the sun taking rides and playing Skee-Ball. I saw Tribe open for them in '98, on the Hello Nasty tour. during their set, Tribe announced that they were breaking up. I think Money Mark and Mix Master Mike actually did a set together before Tribe.
