Analogman
My deal with these dudes is - for them, it is about fame, politics, money, and DEMANDING that others sign up for their trip. Or as Bono once said "The kind of God I believe in isn't short of cash, mister". If this guy, Benny Hinn, Pat Robertson, etc. had guns, they would be no different than David Koresh or Jim Jones. EL the Famous
I can totally understand why somebody could have little to no respect for the man...much like bobtothebob, I had none for him for the same reasons. He said some horrible things in the name of God and completely contradicted everything his faith is supposed to stand for. That said, to say someone deserved to die because you disagreed w/ their beliefs and they way they lived their life is pretty sad, whether you are doing so because they are gay or because they hated gays. You can act like he did or be a better person if you think it's so wrong. That's all.

But I'm absolutely not sad about it, and the world is a better place with one less douchebag preaching to millions of people.
Reni
yeah, I don't recall anyone saying that he "deserved" to die or had wished death upon him - maybe I missed something.

ction
That would actually go well under my avatar. P.S. Sorry for getting off topic, let's get back to paying our respects to Mr. Falwell.
MrRain422
I don't wish death on anybody, but that doesn't mean I mourn everybody equally either. Am I happy he died? No. But I'm not sad either. It's just something that happened. He was a bad dude who's time came. When someone dies, people naturally evaluate what kind of life that person lived, and if Fallwell made the world a worse place, I don't see anything wrong with saying so. 'good riddance'or 'one less douchebag' or whatever is no different. my point on taking a high road still stands...unless I missed something. I guess I find the double-standard fascinating. Sorry. Neither do I...but if part of the reason one feels he made the world a worse place was due to the things he said and the way he said them, you think they'd try and keep it based in some realm of civil discourse. I guess you are right... I have been waiting weeks for him to die. Ask Reni. I imed her just the other day saying "I can't wait until Jerry Falwell dies so I can post about it on the internets". MrRain422
I just personally don't find a few jokes to be all that indecent. Definately nowhere near the level blaming a group of people for a tragedy to score political points, or demonizing an entire segment of the population to raise one's own profile. IMO. EL the Famous
so, you think there is a sliding scale and I think it's just as ugly...we agree to disagree.
bobbob1313
I basically agree with Rain. I know personally that I don't feel like me saying "Good riddance" is indecent as, say, saying this about MLK Jr: "I do question the sincerity and non-violent intentions of some civil rights leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Mr. James Farmer, and others, who are known to have left-wing associations." The guy had zero redeeming qualities and I feel no remorse saying the same things about him in death as I said about him in life.

I can live with that.

bobbob1313
Exactly. Some random asshat on a message board saying Jerry Falwell was an asshole is the same aa multimillionare preacher who got constant media coverage saying MLK was ingenuine in his quest for equality. Or that Gays, women and the ACLU are the reason crazy jihadist's from Saudi Arabia attacked America.

As I said earlier, I agree that he was a horrible man for those same types of reasons...but how you use those things to rationalize taking solace in or justifying his death isn't in any better taste than shit he spouted off. you aren't just some random asshat either, that's a copout.
