jrmitchell72
While IATTBYH offered some insight into the unraveling of their relationship, I don't think it's fair for any of us to use it as our basis for understanding what happened. It was probably just the tip of the iceberg. Watching their dialogue in the movie makes me nauseous and made me sort of happy to see him go. Oh, and Nels is better. ok...I do agree with the first part...but "better" is a relative term here. Nels is "better" suited for the Wilco of today, but I don't think he can hang with the Alt. Country twang of JB's playing. it's apples and oranges my friend. also, to the original post, how could you possibly think that this album is no good?! j

Yeah, it's not like Nels ever played with an Alt. Country band or covered an entire Willie Nelson album.
honestgabe
Yeah, it's not like Nels ever played with an Alt. Country band or covered an entire Willie Nelson album. Ha, Geraldine Fibbers who what now?!
caliber66
what's next a reinstate Max Johnston thread?!\ or how about I'm never happy with the current configuration of my favorite band...Sure, I'd love to see Max back in the band. He's great. Yeah, it's not like Nels ever played with an Alt. Country band or covered an entire Willie Nelson album. That doesn't mean he can play like Jay can.
So Long
That doesn't mean he can play like Jay can. No it doesn't, it means he can play better than Jay. Bennett's got chops, but Nels has much more versatile...

jsmith
i will agree with emb skies, wilco was better with j.b. in the band, jeff and jay made two perfect records (summerteeth and y.h.f...being there is goooood.), and i will always wonder what we are missing by not having him around anymore, that being said, damn i love SBS, an unexpected sound...a sweet one. foolnrain97
...how could you possibly think that this album is no good?! Okay, so let's see here. If I've got this all figured out, some people like the new Wilco album titled Sky Blue Sky; others do not like this album as much as previous albums by Wilco. Some people have no opinion either way. Some people think that this is a "grower" album, while others think that giving things a second, third, or more chance is a waste of time. We all like Wilco(in some shape or form). Wilco's "sound" has changed noticeably from album to album. The above is fact. The below is opinion: Wilco is one of my favorite bands. They have recorded a lot of good music. They have also recorded some music that I don't care much for. That is okay with me. There are other people who have recorded a lot of good music. There are still more people who have recorded a lot of bad music. I have figured out(from listening to a lot of music) what I like and what I don't. Sometimes I share that information with other people,(through recommendations or by just handing them a CD and saying 'give this a spin') but mostly I keep my tastes to myself. Why? Because they're my tastes and I don't expect anyone else to have the same tastes-similar, yes, the same, no. Nor do I try and force my tastes on others. That's not cool. If another person has figured out what they like, that's great. At least they like something. Why does it matter to any of us if they like same things as us? I think that would be boring. Personally, I'm just happy that one of my favorite bands has decided to keep doing what they do best. No matter how great/lacklustre we each may think this album may be, I hope that we're happy with at least that and that we can all hope that the boys feel like this is their best foot forward(even if it is in a new direction). Sincerely yours, foolnrain

ction
I think the only way to truly end these Nels vs. Jay debates is to have the two of them square off in a good ol' fashioned guitar duel, a la Raph Macchio and Steve Vai in Crossroads. Winner stays with/rejoins Wilco, loser spends eternity playing "Smoke on the Water" in Satan's house band.

Szabo
I have to chime in on this JB vs Nels argument. JB was great in Wilco, but just cannot even compare to the beauty and emotion of Nels' playing, not just soloing, but all around texturing. Nels just has him beat. Listen to this Ashes of American Flags from 4-11-06 and find me anything JB ever did that can compare to this. http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.php?cat=...rican_Flags.mp3 And I know that JB may have had a part in writing the song, if that matters to any of you, just listen to Muzzle of Bees from any live show that Nels has played on it, that's proof enough. I'm happy that Jay's contribution to Wilco has elicted this much response .............Jay was Jeff's beutaiful crutch when he needed it ............and we have BT,ST, and YHF to thank for it..... -Roberrt.
