bhadella
I believe it was right around 9, maybe a little after. I also remember a friend who saw them in ATL mentioning they went on around 8:45, so that timeframe is prob a safe bet. Have a great show. Hopefully they will have plenty more left for you guys after the house came down at ovens last night. Tickets said 8:00 show. Doors opened at 7. Low on at 8. Wilco at 9. Ended right at 11. ojo
Just out of curiosity: Does anyone know what time they went on last night? I'm going to the show tonight and it official start time is at 6:30 with Low opening. Any thoughts on what time the boys will come on? for the record - i just called merriweather and got a bubbly girl on the phone who told me the event start time is actually 7:30 - she said the tix were printed when it was intended to go off at 6:30...but low does not start til at least 7:30... crack another beer in the lot...but be MINDFUL of the howard county police. they give you little impression they're understanding...they do not look the other way...AND they just had one of their brothers die in the line of duty about 72-96 hours ago. they may not be in the best of moods. cubzfan18
your right about the lot...i have seen some crazy stuff go down there at phish shows in the past. for those who haven't been but who are going: if your boozing: use a cup to pour it in. I remember them being cool with grilling in the lot but not sure if thats still the case (hopefully because im bringing mine to grill some chicken!). thanks for the info on the start time. QueenCityMichael
I'll just keep adding to the endless ravings on the show at Ovens last night. They were really in a zone last night. Their sound was flawless (just keeps getting better). I assume they pay their sound engineers a pretty penny. Now some questions: I don't ever remember Mikael singing before. I always thought on previous tours when he would come around his keys and add a 3rd guitar that that was the band's heaviest sound. His role in the band seems to be increasing (at least 2 writing credits on SBS alone). And he was REALLY in the zone last night. It was a great time for me personally as well. Went with my good friend ShaftyJay (STILL can't believe we missed pre-sale but row T was fine) and my 13 year old daughter (her 1st concert) and her friend (who at times I saw really rockin' out). I hold the same optimism as a previous post and hope they find their way back to this section of the country in the Fall/Winter. I'm really hoping for a Phoenix or Tucson show getting added so I can take a very dear friend (yes, I'm Trying To Break Your Heart). Peace to all you Macramaniacs
lamradio
I left the concert with such a high (and it wasn't from the pot smoke in the air).. Wilco just put on an amazing show and you could REALLY feel their chemestry. They looked like they had a great time and it really showed.. It was also nice to hear Low say that this was the best audience they had played for in a long time. Wilco is truly in their prime right now.
JHamm
--of special note: VC star sighting: jhamm! a total bonus on the night! I'm glad somebody knew there was a star in the house. Very much a last minute decision to go and I'm glad I made the 2.5 hour drive each way. It was a great, great show, as everyone else has mentioned. I think this is the best incarnation of Wilco and it continues to show.
stickman
I left the concert with such a high (and it wasn't from the pot smoke in the air). You must have been near me. The guy in the row in front of me kept ducking under the seats to light up. Anyway, great show. I saw two mic stands in the center orchestra section, so hopefully there will be a pretty awesome recording coming out. Thanks tapers! I knew that it was going to be a great show after they opened with Sunken Treasure. That new arrangement that is like a combination of JT solo version and full band version is really quite spectacular. That was a great way to see Wilco for the first time! awatt
Fan-fucking-tastic, again. My only question now is will I EVER be disappointed???? Please someone post the Sunken Treasure (was slightly unsure it was worth the drive after being drenched in the ATL downpour then piling in the car with the gang to drive 3.5 hours to a hotel that was not too close to Ovens in a crazy freaking city to drive in, but when I saw Jeff strap on the acoustic and start ST, I knew all was right in the world!). Agree with everything said so far, sound was great, crowd was enthusiastic, song selection was sweet as can be (California Stars and Always in Love were especially noteworthy). The Hummingbird girl did indeed make an appearance and brought out the truly tender side of Jeff, but big, burly dad was bouncing her around almost the entire show which looked exhausting, and not too considerate to folks behind them, even though no one seemed to mind. One of the best moments was right after that song with the place going crazy, Jeff said something like, "Now it's time for a sad one, cause that's just the way life is..." and broke into On and On and On. At the end of the show Jeff pointed in to the audience and waved to someone in ORCH left. Anyone know who? Maybe....he was waving.....to me?? Also, last comment: No point comparing shows since each one is wonderful on its own terms, but seeing the show in Charlotte after the ATL show made me realize that there was something very intense, urgent, energetic in their performance at Chastain that made it extra special. Seemed like they really wanted to put on a great show for the crowd.
LouisvilleGreg
Just got back home from the show, a five plus hous drive from richmond. Great mix of the old and new. Pat was upfront on third guitar about a third of the set, which was nice to see. great interplay during Impossible germany which was the standout SBS live track for me. must say, that after all i've read about shake it off being a monster live, that it was a let down for me. it was played very straight album style. nice to hear war on war, sunken treasure and even california stars, which i know i've heard at 80-90% of every wilco show that i've been to. One comment that many probably didn't hear, bu tthat was perfectly audible from my seat was a woman asking Jeff why he sold himself to Volkswagon right before Shake it Off. Thank goodness he didn't hear from the stage. that's all i've got.
sulli
Great show that's all there is to it. I loved the Sunken Treasure opener and the little girl dancing with Jeff during Hummingbird. I kinda took some offense to all "frisbee golfers" being called dicks, but that was still a hilarious moment. I was up in the Mezzanine so we remained in our seats until the encore, but it was great when we finally stood up cause I got to dance my heart out during Spiders. The best part of the night though was I took my girlfriend with me and I think she is now a full fledged Wilco fan. About 3-4 songs into the show, some guy near me yelled "God bless you Jeff Tweedy" which resulted in some cheers and laughter....but I totally agree with that dude. Can't wait til next time. Also, the poster from last night is now up at wilcoworld, just picked up mine.
lovecontagious
I think the little girl Jeff brought on stage was the same little girl he danced with during "Hummingbird" at the last Charlotte show (and possibly the Asheville show 2 years ago). If so, she is as cute as ever and is growing like a weed. It was fun to see Jeff do his little running-in-place dance (that he always does during "Hummingbird") with an enthusiastic dance partner. Other pleasant surprises: "Always in Love" (!!!) and closing with "Heavy Metal Drummer". Hi everybody. Yes, little Miss Lilac Rain was the little girl from the Chapel Hill show as well as the Asheville show a couple of years ago. She's definately growing up! Thanks to everyone who gave her so much love, hugs, high fives and well wishes. She was all smiles all night! After the show, we went out to the bus because Lilac had made a hangy, glitter, spin art, star thing for "the enitre band to hang in their tour bus." Jeff was happy to see her again, really liked the gift, signed her hummingbird tote bag, and had a little conversation with her. Surprisingly, Lilac Rain was quiter than usual...I think she was just taking the whole experience in. The show was smokin' even without Lilac's "Hummingbird" experience. I crowd seemed to be behaving, and Jeff was in a playful mood. I really wish we could catch them again this summer, but it doesn't look like it's in the stars...hopefully, they'll come around this way in the fall.

Don't worry, AWATT...I made sure that my husband wasn't being inconsiderate of the two, kind women behind him. Everytime I looked back, I tried to position him between the two and they would reassure me and say, "Don't worry...they're fine!" We realize how tall he is, even without bouncing our daughter around. Maybe bands should sell a section of tickets just for people who are over 6 feet tall.

I was on 2nd row center (right beside a taper - thank you very much ) and directly in front of me was a 6+ foot guy who danced... a lot - which is cool but he blocked Pat and John completely from me most of the night. Suggestion: There should be a section for the tall ones. They can have discounted tickets.
Derek
I'm Always In Love getting played in the encore after I make the thread saying how awesome it is. Coincidence? or does someone in the band check the boards?

Coincidence? or does someone in the band check the boards? I would bet that at least someone from the band checks this board from time to time.. This is definitely the most popular Wilco board on the web.
isadorah
things like that that make me wonder if someone should write a handout on concert etiquette and distribute it before shows. i am SO glad i'm not the only one that was thinking this! it's so frustrating to be at a concert and have folks around you being obnoxious and rude. it changes the whole experience! or maybe i am just getting old. ms. yvon
perhaps we could wrangle some volunteers to sport bright vests and quell the jackasses in the crowds. kind of like largo, but on a bigger scale... AWATT--i can't believe that we were at two shows together and didn't get to meet! damn!last fall i had a friend rooming with me. she took to reading the vc. she LOVED your acronym username. she would say it whenever i was planning a show trip. (at that time i was traveling for mmj, but it's in the same spirit)

blasting_fonda
Loved the show... sadly was about a mile from the stage in the back right corner. but it all sounded wonderful, and have newfound respect for some of the new songs. i had gotten into a faux-argument with a guy behind me about how dissapointed i was with 'sky blue sky' as an album, and how not one song would make it into my top 20 wilco songs. i still believe that the album isn't by any means a standout in wilco's catalog, but the live performances of such songs as "hate it here" and "shake it off" (two of my previous least favorite songs) gave them incredible new light. i especially admire the driving force behind each chorus, and the soulful voice of jeff on each. the studio version all seemed cautious and seedy, whereas the full blown power of the stage seemed to invigorate the band. and, of course, glen continues to amaze me with the sheer creative perfection on his instrument. i'll never get over how he can play the chime riff in IATTBYH. highlights of the show for me:an inspired Sunken Treasure to open.an intense Side with the Seeds, which is by far my favorite SBS song.I am trying to break your heart. The macrame owl.Tweedy's commentary on frisbee golf. "those guys are assholes..." Spiders. Even in the very top of the balcony, the currents of energy swept across the building, and i was sweating by the time it was over. everyone was sitting down up there until that point. Overall terrific, powerful show. Exactly what I've come to expect. I, along with many others, and hoping and praying for another Wilco sweep of the southeast before the year is over. We are a little spoiled, but the band doesn't seem to get enough.
