Fine, but a real poll is so statistically...satisfying. :)

And allows the lurkers to "have their say" as well.

i don't think its gonna end up with fair results because it forces you to vote once in each of the two song categories

Thanks for noticing that....I've fixed it now. Would be easier if the admins config'd the board for 12 choices vs 10. ;)

(apologies to the first 11 or so voters, your vote may be screwed up, but it was for "the greater good")

I'm pleasantly surprised to see that I'm not the only person who voted for the song I chose. :)

which one, Null? (haven't heard this track yet, still trying to oxidize it off the backside of the deluxe special mega-fan edition)

thats what i voted for

+1 HIH :thumbup

I can't say *why*, really...other than it's a great song, with some very very lovely guitar solos and a great showcase for Glenn's drumming prowess. Good enough to get my vote, though I don't think it's appreciably "better" than a half dozen other SBS tracks.

Having said that, I'm not at all surprised YAMF is in the lead, lyrically it beats up most of the other tunes pretty handily. But I am a bit surprised at how large the margin of that lead is right now.

I'm really surprised that Leave Me (Like You Found Me) has received votes. That might be the most listless song Wilco has ever produced and brings the entire album to a screeching halt. I guess that's why these things are subjective.

Can't do it! Not sure if you mean "best" or "favorite" - but either way, like most great records, my fav changes every other week as songs that didn't stand out at first grow on me and supplant the ones I liked best when I initially heard it.

I have another theory (surprise surprise), that people who have suffered from and come out of clinical depression can probably relate well to the transition in Tweedy's lyrics between "then and now". I count myself in that number. "Content with being blue...honestly" may sound trite or even cheesy to some, but to me it rings very true. The song to me is all about moving off the fantasy-romance plane, onto the kind of adult relationships where the partners aren't trying to "mold" each other into something else any more. We all pine for change sometimes, but you hit a point in life where you're faced with the choice of either accepting the way things are, or being miserable forever. JM2C..

:wave It got my vote. It sounded like a bit of a throwaway the first time I heard it, but it's grown on me more than any other song on the record, and is now my favorite.

I'm surprised Shake It Off is not getting many votes. Not that I voted for it but it was a second choice after HIH. :dancing

Yeah I voted the same....tho YAMF/SIO/HIH are all in the same league, for me. But I'm surprised too, SIO is a great tune and plays SO well in concert. The whole band seems to really groove on it.

I'm also suprised Please Be Patient hasn't gotten many votes...2 so far. It's such a beautiful, simple, honest song, if you're in the mood for it. Oh well..

Which all goes to show how people define "good" songs differently. I agree with you about the lyrics, but for me, there is nothing there musically to grab me in the first place. But I like your interpretation of the lyrics and I still listen to it every time it comes on.

I voted for "Side with the Seeds." The guitar parts in the middle and at the end impress me every time, and I absolutely love the lyrical imagery. "The park grows dark/And the swings all slowly die" is my favorite line on the album.
