W(TF)
I can't remember if this is right; I've read a ton of Wilco articles lately. Did Jeff's father die in the last few years? I've been wondering about the object of On And On And On's lyrics, if indeed it isn't just "ambiguous", as Tweedy has declared SBS in general. At first I thought he wrote this for his wife, but as I listen to it, he seems to be speaking to someone who's dying. (?)

W(TF)
Thank you. I don't want to make any assumptions, but I'll listen to it again with that in mind.
isadorah
i can't remeber where i heard this or read it, but my understanding of On and On and On is that Jeff wrote it for his father after Jeff's mom died.

Yeah isadorah I have read that also, it confused me a bit as the song was first played live in the fall of 2005, which was about a year before his mother passed away. I can certainly see it having a deeper meaning for him now as I have sort of written things where I haven't consciously been thinging of a certain thing and then something happens which gives it's a greater context. Either way the song is breathe taking, I recant my earlier posts about Sky Blue Sky not having a standout track that stands with Tweedy's best work, and when (I don't know if I said that here) I said this song was an inferior rewrite of Reservations I didn't mean that as insult at all. Pretty much anything I've ever written including this very post and the minor league soccer article I'm working at the moment has been an inferior re-write of Reservations. --Mike
wonderturtle
I am sure I am not the first to say this but... "On and On and On" is a Flaming Lips songs. well not literally. but musically and lyrically that song is just as "Flaming Lips" as any "Flaming Lips" song I have ever heard. not a criticism. just an observation. Wilco Worshipper
For the record... I fell apart when he performed this in Northampton. From what I had been reading, this wasn't really being performed much, so I was NOT expecting it AT ALL! It killed me when they did. And then, lo and behold, in Boston I was able to see them do it again. I did hold it together a little better then...
