The key to the frozen grocery White Castles is to steam them. It brings them back to their delightfully gooey, soggy, greatness.

I'm a little amazed at the love-fest for WC here. In no way shape or form would I ever say that I love them. Eat them, sure...love them, no. Definitely drunk food.

There is a concert venue here in Columbus that has a White Castle inside the venue. Tell me, do you really want to be constantly smelling sliders while trying to watch a show? (and, yes, I bought 4 of them during the set-break at a recent show, but that's only because I had a lot of beer too) :lol

You people are all sick. That place is disgusting. DISGUSTING.

That said, there's a White Castle over on the edge of town that I've been known to drive through on occasion. :blush

I discovered White Castle on my 1st trip to Chicago and made it a must :wub on every return trip. After not getting back for a year or so, I realized I could get them in Jersey when I started travelling down to see my 2nd favorite band :D

I went to NJ as part of my vacation last week and we were SO FAR NORTH, I couldn't get any... :cryin

So now I'm DYIN' for some...and yes, they sell 'em frozen at the local grocery store but that's just NOT the same as heading into White Castle in the middle of the night after a great show and piggin' out with the rest of the night people/fave local band :cheers

So I know plenty of you actually live where they are quite common...your thoughts?!?

There are 2 White Castles I know of in Northern NJ...Jersey City and Rutherford. Where where you? I avoid them though as it reaks havock on my stomach.

:ohwell

If I lived close to Clifton I'd be eating at Rutt's Hut when the pangs hit rather than any WC.

For serious drunk food, I prefer gyros or a doner kebab ... or in a pinch, something like La Bamba (i.e., Mexican but not Taco Bell).

White Castle would only make me more likely to hurl.

You haven't had greasy food until you've had one of these.

The garbage plate

Nick Tahou Hots is a Rochester, New York landmark restaurant famous for its Garbage Plate. The restaurant was founded by its namesake, Nick Tahou, who died in 1997 after running the establishment for over 50 years. Despite the many regional variants all based on the same theme (such as Penfield, Fairport, Henrietta, and Perinton Hots), Nick's is widely regarded as the original Garbage Plate (and, as holder of the trademark, the only restaurant able to use the name).

A Garbage Plate is a disorganized combination of one selection out of (cheeseburger, hamburger, steak, hotdogs, white hots, italian sausage, breakfast sausage, fish, fried ham, Grilled Cheese, or eggs), which are placed on top of a choice of two out of four sides (homefries, french fries, baked beans, or macaroni salad). On top of that you get the options of mustard and onions and the signature ingredient: Nick's "hot sauce" - a greasy spiced sauce containing ground meat. The garbage plate also comes with a side of starchy white Italian-style bread and butter. Most patrons typically smother this in ketchup, mustard or a hot sauce, particularly Frank's Red Hot. A1 Steak Sauce is also usually available.

:omgSo, is the life expectancy noticeably lower in Rochester?
They have to put on their winter coat. I would eat these once, or twice a week when I lived there. Only ate one for lunch once. Bad idea.

I don't know, but I'm moving there tomorrow.

They are fantastic.

I used to be able to put away stuff like that (the Garbage Plate), but now it just leads to misery and regret.

Plus, it's added up to a lot of extra pounds over the years.
