Wilco Worshipper
I never watch the show but a friend of mine called me to say they just mentioned a "Wilco CD". So I switched over...turns out it was a pivotal part of the plot!!! In hopes of maybe hearing something, I almost cried when someone broke the CD. But never fear, at the end I heard a cpl of notes...and was like "No WAY!!!" They played 'Passenger Side' I was soooooooooo excited I believe I heard Neil Patrick Harris was spotted at a Wilco concert once, yes?!? I'm assuming he had some influence on this. And I'm pretty sure I saw the former Winnie Cooper as a minor character for this episode.
CalebMac
I happened upon this too as I was flipping through channels tonight. I must admit, I too was very exicted.
j4lackey
The main guy was trying to get Winnie and the blonde chick from Freaks & Geeks up to his apartment for a three way by promising to play a Wilco CD for them. When he went into the bedroom upon hearing them giggling, Passenger Side commenced to play. Pretty sweet!
GtrPlyr
I saw an episode of this show a while back that used The Replacements "Skyway." Someone on the show must have good musical taste, and a bit of sway.
bobbob1313
This is one of my favorite shows on tv, but I can't watch it when it's on anymore because I have class during that time. But I can't wait to see this episode. PS, it's a truly great show, and NPH is absolutely hysterical as Barney.
DAngerer09
It's really cool Wilco was on the show, but I really don't like Passenger Side much at all. I've never understood all the love it gets. No offense...but that song just doesn't do anything for me.
bobbob1313
It's got a lyric about smoking pot, and alls these peoples are stoners.
ikol
They have the whole episode on cbs.com.
SarahC
i heard the first notes of "passenger side" come on the tv, i was on the computer in the panty... dad was watching tv in the living room and i run in all excited...me: "WILCO!!! That's "passenger side" dad!!!!"dad: definitely cool.
bobbob1313
For the record, I watched it last night. That was one of the best episodes thus far. Season 3 is shaping up to be a good one. I can't believe they almost cancelled this show.
Atticus
I think it's kind of sick that this guy feels that he needs to describe in detail the time he might or might not have had a threesome while telling his two young children about how he met their mother. actually, the show has gotten a bit too three's company silly for my taste, but we'll probably keep watching it... cryptique
"three's company silly"I'm going to try to work that phrase into a conversation sometime today.
Atticus
I'm going to try to work that phrase into a conversation sometime today. "too three's company silly" would be even better because of the fun little too/three two/three word play I had going there
bobbob1313
actually, the show has gotten a bit too three's company silly for my taste, but we'll probably keep watching it... I'm not sure if that's fair. I mean, it's a sitcom. 99% of sitcoms are silly in that way. I happen to think HIMYM does it better than pretty much any other standard sitcom. And regardless of anything else, Barney will always keep me coming back for me. NPH is hysterical in that role. I can see him eventually being a caricature if they aren't careful, but he's still great.

I just think that if they toned down the goofiness factor it could be a much better show. have you watched the big bang theory? It's silly too but for some reason it makes me chuckle. I watched the pilot of BBT, and it wasn't awful, but I've not really made an attempt to go back to it. If I didn't have class on monday nights I would probably watch it with HIMYM, but since I have to watch them on the computer, and since I don't have sound on my computer, I have to use my roommate's pc. It's a big mess, so I prefer not having to use it for too long.

Atticus
Remember, he started the show with saying that he COULDN'T tell his kids this story... you just had to go ahead and ruin a perfectly below-average bit of sarcasm with the "facts" didn't you?

glassypeaks
I saw an episode of this show a while back that used The Replacements "Skyway." Someone on the show must have good musical taste, and a bit of sway. I mistakenly posted the following in the "In a Future Age" section with a poll... "Last night on How I Met your Mother a tv show on CBS, there were significant references to Wilco. In the episode one of the characters is trying to get two girls back to his apartment so he tells them they should go listen to the new Wilco cd. Then, he gets upstairs (I believe they even make a comment about it being a great CD for getting girls or hanging out or something like that) , goes in his room to get the Wilco CD when his room mate out of spite that his friend is about to "ride the tricycle" snaps the Wilco CD in two. This seems to be obvious product integration with CBS and Wilco or someone acting on their behalf. Does anyone have any additional info about the deal? What are your thoughts about the mainstream product placement? Did you like the Show? Personally, i didn't mind it, and I enjoyed hearing "Passenger Side" at the climax." Major media outlets like CBS don't just go around plugging bands repeatedly and incorporating them into their episodes plot lines. I think it's very naive to think that the producers just have "good taste" .This was def a marketing deal. Geez!

I think it's very naive to think that the producers just have "good taste" .This was def a marketing deal. Geez! Not every piece of music used in a TV show is placed there by advertisers, believe it or not. If the use of Wilco was an intentional marketing ploy they would've used something from the current record don't you think, not something from their least popular first record. Also, the use of a Replacements song, a band that isn't even around anymore can't possibly be seen as something stemming from a marketing deal, or maybe I missed something.
