Wilco Worshipper
A friend I have in Chicago has heard of Wilco and even listed a cpl of their old songs as some that stood out to him, yet he doesn't own anything by them. I know you all have talked about some of the songs that have aired before, but I was wondering if you recall ever hearing these three... Far, Far, AwayMisunderstoodCan't Stand It ...I don't remember ever hearing them discussed as radio tunes. Thanks

tjr
WXRT here in Chicago play "Can't Stand It" every once in a while. Walken and What Light still get played a bit...
zebra
Yeah, XRT even plays a live version of "Can't Stand It" every now and then too.
Guest Left Arm Tan
Yeah, XRT even plays a live version of "Can't Stand It" every now and then too. i've heard xrt play this set from a tower records show at least a few times during "live from the archives"... i think it was a summerteeth release party/show... 03/11/99 1. I'm Always In Love 2. Via Chicago 3. How To Fight Loneliness 4. She's A Jar 5. We're Just Friends 6. Can't Stand It 7. I Got You (At The End Of The Century) 8. Forget The Flowers 9. California Stars
Edie
They also have played Nothingsevergonnastandinmywayagain, Casino Queen, Box/Letters and Outtasite alot, along with HMD and Theologians more recently. I just heard "Can't Stand it" the other morning.
squarewave
"box full of letters" used to be a part of Lin's Bin opening theme.... XRT supports the Wilco... and vice versa I think XRT has lost a lot of it's luster, but it's still the best we got (and one of the best commercial stations in the US)
H to the ickle
They regularly play Casino Queen, Box Full of Letters, I'm Always in Love, What Light, and few others on 102.3 here in Columbia.

Guest Left Arm Tan
the whole of summerteeth is radio-friendly i'ver only heard kamera and california stars on the radio here yeah, i agree, but i remember reading that can't stand it wasn't originally on summerteeth... reprise asked them to write a more radio friendly tune for the album, and it was can't stand it. then they essentially asked the same for yhf, and wilco bolted, as we all know. NoOneKnowsMe
Theologians and I'm a Wheel were played on XRT quite a bit when AGIB came out.

I never listen to the radio and someone mentioned hearing wilco on there but I have no idea what sation is which (except B96 and Q101 because they have the numbers in the names)

zebra
The DJs over at XRT can sometimes put you to sleep, but they play good music...most of the time.
LouieB
"I think XRT has lost a lot of it's luster, but it's still the best we got (and one of the best commercial stations in the US)That's an understatement, but I suppose it is one of the better "commercial sations" which it did not start out as (it was 4 hours a night back in the 70s), but now the play list is so (relatively) short that if you leave it on for more than 20 minutes you can be sure to hear REM, The Cure, Talking Heads (all of whom I like) before the hour is out. Otherwise it tends to play the same damn cut by some of their favorites over and over again too, sometimes for years. What station is XRT? loldoctor
I've lived in Chicago my entire life. The radio on my car is broken (or rather, the antenna) so I never listen to it. But I was in a friend's car and wanted to listen to it and had no idea.
LouieB
Wow man, I am really not trying to get into an argument with you, but you said you had never heard of WXRT. That seems impossible. Not only are they the best (arguably of course) commercial rock station in town, but they sponsor gobs of shows, both small and large including Wilco. Their PR is plastered on everything at many events particularly music ones. Lots of people say they are from Chicago and are in fact from the suburbs, so I just really gotta wonder. First, I think the guy/gal is probably reasonably young. Second, believe it or not, you can get WXRT in the suburbs (if you wanted to). That said, get well!

Duck-Billed Catechist
XRT's target demographic age is probably pretty high. They're not a ratings monster or anything like that.
