Kobe to the Bulls?

Recommended Posts

So tonight, a friend of a firend (who works in the NBA) said Kobe being traded to the Bulls is imminent. Obviously I can't confirm this, but I was told the deal would send at least, Deng, Noah & Gordon to the Lakers (maybe more or some picks), personally I'd keep the Bulls they way they are, and I wouldn't even bother with posting this, but knowing the chigago peeps here, just curious if this is old news? Anyone even care, it was news to me, but he said it's going down. Guess we'll see, after googling around a lot of voices say this is not happening, but I have it from what I consider to be quite credible source, but maybe all the speculation is like wild fire and no one, even someone working in the NBA, is immune from it.

This makes them the best team in the East. I know someone is going to say "omg he is not teh team player" whatever. He's the best player in the NBA, and he makes any team better. I'm not sure why Bulls fans think Deng is going to be the second coming, but if he's the best player they are giving up to get Kobe "I Score 50 With My Eyes Closed" Bryant then thats a good trade.

Would you have said the Heat gave up too much to get Shaq? Sure, it probably made them worse off for the future, as he's declining and still making tons of money, but it won them a title. Absolutely worth it, as will be this trade if it does the same thing.

Bulls v. Celts in this year's Eastern Conf. finals. Sans Bryant, Boston wins. Avec, Chicago wins.

Please, please, PLEASE don't let this happen. :pray

The Bulls have built a terrific team mostly through the draft, and they're exciting to watch. Given another year or two, I think they're NBA Finals material. I just don't understand the impulse to upset all that just to snag Kobe Bryant. He might make the team better for a year or two, but I think the long-term effects would be disastrous.

Agreed.

They guy can't even get along with Phil Jackson.

So, echoing the comments directly above... with Skiles?

Oy.

Hinrich-Bryant-Nocioni-Thomas-Wallace would be a good starting five. They'd lose some depth. I don't think their current arc will lead them to a championship--they just don't have a go-to scoring option.

The rumor has been late November for this trade. If they give up all of the above plus Thomas, I don't like the deal. They'd have too many holes and it wouldn't be much different than the current Laker team.

+ 1.

For as much as Bulls fans hype up Deng, I don't see him as being the type of guy who can lead a team to a championship (and this is with me seeing him mostly during the series of his life against the Heat). To win a title in the NBA, you need at least one great player, and the Bulls didn't have that before this. If this goes through, they have not only a great player, but arguably the great player of the post- Michael pre-Lebron domination (Which should begin soon, maybe this year) era.

The public's view of Kobe is kind of like the public's view of A-Rod, except Kobe has 3 titles, so that criticism doesn't fly. What I mean is more of people create reasons to dislike him for whatever reason. The guys is a great defensive player, he can pass (he just hasn't had anybody to do so with since Shaq left), and he can score, boy can he score. Short of trading Cleveland, I can't think of any team in the NBA that doesn't improve by trading their best playe for Kober. And in the case of the Bulls, their possible best player, a guy who plays no defense, can't pass and only seems to show up in the 4th quarter, and a rookie with no offensive skills to speak of is more than worth Kobe.

I also really don't get the love affair some people have with Tyrus Thomas. Sure he's got like a 70 inch vertical, but the Bulls don't really need more no offense post guys, so he's expendable. I still think signing Wallace was an awful move with that money.

Well, we've had this conversation before. I think Tyrus will develop into a decent interior scorer. He's developed a little bit of a jump shot, a little bit of a baby hook, and I think he'll get fouled a lot and shoot 70%+ from the line this year.

Oh, also, last year his +/- per 48 was the highest on the team.

I think if they get Kobe they can afford to have Wallace and Thomas playing at the same time, but if they stand pat, those guys should never be on the court together (not to mention Noah, who is a very similar player) unless they have a late lead.

Umm... technically, yeah. But what has he done without Shaq? He wanted it to be HIS team and he got his wish. With his recent track record, would you want YOUR team to be HIS team?

hmm, reasons to dislike Kobie.

He raped a woman

As a Laker fan he is so hard to root for. I'll be watching a game and he'll do something spectacular and I'll start cheering... and then realize, "Oh. Yeah. He's that guy who did that thing. Uck."

I don't really follow B-ball except for the Lakers, so I don't really know that much about the people rumored in the trade... but I'll still take them.

Goodbye Kobe. Don't let your ego hit you in the ass on the way out.

:blink

OMG! It just hit me! This is why he changed to that stupid #24 last year - he saw this coming! He'll go to Chicago and be one better than Jordan.

i don't see how you can assume that he actually raped that woman. i'm not saying he didn't, but i wouldn't put it passed some crazy woman to falsely accuse a very wealthy public figure of such an act.

i'll never know what happened, so i don't care one way or the other anymore. but that's just me.

and i don't care if he becomes a bull or not because i pretty much hate basketball.

Which begs the question... why are you even reading this thread?* As for the rape allegations, no, I don't know if he did or didn't either. It just smelled more than a little fishy on both sides. He could have easily been set up, but he sure didn't handle it well.

From Wiki(take it with a grain of salt)pedia:

In 2003, Bryant's reputation was tainted by a sexual assault case in which Katelyn Faber, a young woman from Colorado, accused him of rape. With his image badly tarnished, the public's perception of Bryant plummeted, and his endorsement contracts with McDonald's, Nutella, and Ferrero SpA were terminated. Sales figures from NBA merchandisers indicated that sales of replicas of Bryant's jersey fell far off of their previous highs.

During the rape investigation, Kobe told police that "he should have done what Shaq does ... that Shaq would pay his women not to say anything" and that Shaq already had paid up to $1 million "for situations like this." This was controversial because Kobe and Shaq were teammates at the time and many thought that Kobe broke "locker-room code" by revealing confidential information, or worse, by falsely accusing a teammate to deflect attention from himself. [4]

The rape investigation was resolved when Kobe agreed to apologize to the victim for the incident, including his public mea culpa: "Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did." [5] Details of financial compensation to the victim were not made public.
