Vacant Horizon
thanks for posting all this new stuff. looking forward to this season. glad the lead actor is doing well. he's in remission from cancer, which i didn't know until recently. i hope this season is a little more realistic that the last few have been. of course it's a tv show, but last season was a bit campy. the previews look very serious which i hope is the tone. just deep and dark. cryptique
The fifth season has started! So...? What'd y'all think? I'm not too thrilled with this Deb/Quinn thing, and hope it dies out soon. I also hope that Astor and Cody end up with their grandparents (or SOMEone else) because I can't really see any alluring story line possibilities with them still around. But aside from that, I thought it was a pretty good season opener. They haven't tipped their hand too much yet.
ih8music
I'm still on the fence about this episode. I realize he was in shock, and that Rita was his anchor in "normal" society, but the way that he completely lost the ability to relate to Rita's kids/family on any level was a little difficult to believe. I also don't care much for the Deb/Quinn fling, but since they're setting him up to be Doakes 2.0, I guess that's the wrinkle to the storyline. All in all, I'm hoping for a better second show. The previews certainly make it seem like there's quite a bit to come.

Guest Speed Racer
We've just started Season 4 on Netflix. I know how it ends, but I pray like hell that my girlfriend doesn't recognize Julie Benz in those new Hulu ads for her new ABC show, because I think that would spoil a few things for her. And, I had a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich for breakfast.

GtrPlyr
yeah, i really hope quinn becomes the new fall guy here. They seem to be setting him up to be one. I don't know, it seems to me like they're just rehashing old storylines with new faces. Like ih8music said, it's "Doakes 2.0." As much as I don't like Quinn, I really was hoping for something different, we'll see how things play out.
LouisvilleGreg
that second episode served almost no purpose save for 2 of the kids being out of the picture, otherwise it didn't go anywhere.

I agree, although it was refreshing to see Dexter relate to people like people again. I guess he really needed that kill . Speaking of which, the "bad guy" he's currently stalking looks to be one of the weakest characters they've had yet. Why they felt the need to spread his role out over more than one episode, I don't understand.

It will be more about Dexter and his issues with family life and such. I sense a much more unfocused season, with a lot of complants from fans.
LouisvilleGreg
I was trying to think of a beloved, long-running show that got consistently better with each passing season? Lost certainly dropped off, as did the Sopranos. The Wire on the other hand, I could be convinced that the show continued to grow, evolve and even improve for five seasons. I guess what I'm getting at is maybe Dexter is due for a down season, though it's way too early to even entertain that for this year.
Moss
Wow..... I take back everything I've ever said about wanting Rita to die.. Managed to make it all the way through the season without spoilers and just saw this episode last night. Rita was a bit annoying but she was easy on the eyes. Can't wait to start the next season asap.
Vacant Horizon
umm, this season is fast becoming the best season yet! started out kind of rough, but the arc is very compelling as are the new characters.
m_thomp
Not as good as last season...... yet. This is mainly due to the supporting characters being, and I'm being very generous here, too one dimensional/predictable. But my interest got piqued in this last episode. I think Dexter's new nemesis is going to be Robocop.
LouisvilleGreg
I'm guessing Dex and Lueman(check spelling) will soon be hooking up in more ways than one.

GtrPlyr
nothing more then a victim of gang rape wants to do, is have sex with a stranger. did you miss the scene in the airport?Of course this being TV, things often progress in a less realistic manner than real life. As the season progresses, and her trust of Dexter deepens, I suspect they will end up being a couple.
KevinG
I also suspect Dex & Lumen will become involved. I suspect Dexter will end up killing Lumen.
LouisvilleGreg
Well, that last sequence this week seems to confirm that indeed they will become lovers/partners in crime. For whatever reason, and you have to really suspend reality quite often with this show, she sees Dexter as a kindred spirit. That scene at the warehouse was quite possibly the most preposterous nick of time escape yet.
ih8music
I didn't care for the soap-opery "This is how I can help Lumen get through this" ending, either...
ih8music
That was pretty disappointing. But Masuka's visual explanation of what happened redeemed it for me. Hilarious. agree, that was refreshingly hilarious.

That scene at the warehouse was quite possibly the most preposterous nick of time escape yet. I hope the become more partner's in crime, lovers would be ridiculous, as I have stated before. I still am holding out hope that Lumen ends up on "Dexter's table." It seems to be what happens to those who know Dex's secret. Season 1: Rudy Cooper "The Ice Truck Killer"Season 2: Doakes and Lila TournaySeason 3: Miguel PradoSeason 4: Arthur "Trinity" Mitchell If this season holds true to the prior, it does not look good for Lumen and probably Quinn. ih8music
A friend of mine works for directtv out here in el segundo. Every year, Showtime sends out some of their 2nd tier stars to their annual summer party. For 3 yrs now, they've sent two actors from Dexter -- and for each of those seasons, one of the two characters that was sent got killed (Rita, Miguel, Doakes). This year, they sent out Masuka & Quinn. Seems very plausible for the pattern to hold. (and apparently when they told the actors about this coincidence, they were not terribly amused... Killing off Masuka doesn't make sense. He adds a lot of levity to a very dark show. Quinn on the other hand...
m_thomp
Agreed with all the comments regarding the last episode, and it's at times like these that I yearn for the unhinged foreboding menace of Trinity. I too was expecting Lumen to be a victim of a M99/hacksaw cocktail. Looks like she's purely love interest material now. Quinn and Robocop will both get it though. Quinn's fate was sealed as soon as Deb revealed she had feelings for him that extended beyond horizontal gymnastics. I still have suspicions around the Irish Nanny. I read that some people believe she might be related to Lyla (season 3?), but that's far too ludicrous. Nope, I think there's more tell-tale signs around the how's she's been portrayed so far, we've already had our fears raised and then allayed when Dexter returned home to find no Harrison or Nanny. This was a smart move to build the audience's trust, and primes us for a surprise expectation u-turn. Beyond that gut feel, I have nothing to go on. As a side-issue, does anyone else chuckle at the use of mobile phones and computers in Dexter? I'm referring incoming caller details with a font size 88. I'm from the UK, and our mobile phones simply don't have caller details and texts that are clearly visible from the surface of the moon. I know, I know, it's fictional tv, and to aid exposition using devices like these relies on the details being painfully explicit, but surely this isn't the norm. Ditto, emails and web browsing. Also, the systems used for the fingerprint searches? Does anyone here work for the police department? Are these machines really that efficient?
