spongebob
this is going to sound wierd ....but looking at wilco base, the charleston show on 2/29 appears to be the first time wilco has played this date in thier history. if i am wrong some one tell me. it will be another four years before this can happen again. call me strange...but i have a really good feeling about what the charleston audience is going to see. i am a super nerd(sorry)....but i wonder if there are any other dates in the year that wilco has never played.spongebob
lamradio
call me strange...but i have a really good feeling about what the charleston audience is going to see. Well, I'll be in the audience and in the front row, so of course I'm stoked.. Do you think Wilco actually keeps up with that stuff? If so, that would be really really cool if they make this show extra special.

lamradio
Yeah, one show is plenty for me.. I can't handle much more than that.. I'll have a rock overdose.. haha j/k.. Between the Charlotte show in June, and now this one in Feb, that's enough rest time.
QueenCityMichael
I'll be there a row behind you lamrod. I wonder if this'll be close enough for the Lilac Rain family to come. To be honest I'm surprised they're playing this venue again considering Jeff's "this place is like Altamont" crack. But I dig a trip to Charleston if for no other reason than to hit Basil (a thai place downtown, corner of King & Ann), now just to find a companion for that 2nd ticket... You ain't gonna learn what you don't wanna know MI

Between the Charlotte show in June, and now this one in Feb, that's enough rest time.I did the Charlotte and Atlanta shows in June which just made me want more I wish they were playing some more around where I could go... I had planned a road trip for x'mas week and several shows, which that band pissed me off, so instead...took the week and drove down to florida and then back up the Georgia coast stopping at all the islands...I must say watching the ships in and out of port in Savannah was kool... Hey Wilco, what about playing the Savannah Civil Center again??? it would be kool riding the ferry over to the show... With a new year comes new vacation time, so I'd love to get a "rock overdose" Please consider Savannah Wilco! say 2/28 or 3/1 you could just drive down after the charleston show? I know wishful thinking

Who are they? Sorry if I sound so "out of the loop".. I plan to do a roll call when the show gets closer, if someone doesn't do one before me.. I'd like to meet some VC'ers

She did it in Asheville too eh? What a great kid! And cool parents too.. In Asheville JT came out into the crowd and held her and serenaded her... Very sweet like in Charlotte...She has great stories to tell her children some day Yes kool parents too... I use to take mine to concerts as they were growing up, now they are grown and usually are "too busy".New mates, babies, ect. But they do miss it, my daughter was saying over x'mas "we need to go to another show soon" Hopefully other VC'ers can meet up and have a "pow wow" before the show... that would be fun. spongebob
well i am crossing my fingers for a great show(i know it will be, they all are, i have the flac to prove it). it is not like wilco is ryan adams and you roll the dice when you buy tickets. it will be the first show i have seen outside of asheville(i have caught all three here). the wife and i are going to make a weekend out of it. easy to do in a town like charleston. whatever the band has on slate sounds like heaven to me. spongebob(j)

Mine are a little two young to take to a Wilco concert yet. One is 2 and the other is 4.. They would get ancy after a few songs and want to run around the place.. Wouldn't make the concert very fun for my wife and I. But they do love Wilco.. They are glued to the TV when I play them the Wilco on ACL DVD.. And when we get in the car, my four year old always screams "I wanna here I remember my mother! play I remember my mother!"

I'm hoping they pull out a lot of old songs, but I'll be happy with whatever they play. Charleston is a great place to spend the weekend.. Plenty to do. My wife and I will definitely be at one of the many pubs before the show.
QueenCityMichael
I think the Altamont crack had to do with the venue. NCPAC just sort of slants up, Up, UP and you're "aware" of the people in the back from the stage, like those on a amphitheatre hill. His comment had nothing to do with post-1960's zeitgeist, or the need to have Hell's Angels provide security, but I was in the 3rd row paying almost no heed to anyone in the audience. Also, Jeff and Lilac got together in Charlottesville. My 14 year old daughter now calls Hummingbird "Lilac Rain's Song". One more thing. I highly recommend a Thai restaurant downtown called Basil. It's at the corner of King and Ann. The Music Farm is right behind it, if you're a little familiar with the area. MI I'm not aware of too many things, but I know what I know if you know what I mean

MI I'm not aware of too many things, but I know what I know if you know what I mean man i used to love basil's but it is not as good as it once was. prices have escalated, portions have decreased, service is subpar. just my opinion ,some still love it, and it's still probably better than the other thai option downtown, little thai too. rue de jean , a block further south on john street, has also declined over the past few years but is still very good for bistro fair like mussels and fries, steaks, burgers, a great duck salad, and sushi. you can spend a fortune there or eat pretty cheap. lamradio
Yeah, I hope Lilac makes a visit. Charleston definitely has a lot of great restaurants. If you wan't seafood (which of course Charleston is best known for) there's Hymans.. If you know Charleston, you probably already know about it, but I think it's the best bang for you buck. I have eaten the cheap seafood joints, and the most expensive and Hymans is my favorite. And make sure you say hi to Rita The Greeter.
tft3323
Anywhere near the Performing Arts Center (walking distance) to have some drinks or food before the show?
lamradio
Anywhere near the Performing Arts Center (walking distance) to have some drinks or food before the show? Unfortunately there isn't too much around the PAC.. Atleast within walking distance.. It's kind of in a shady part of town (as most concert venue's are). However, there is a great sports bar around the corner on West Montague that is within walking distance. It's called the SportZ Cafe (you can google it)... They have pretty good food. Basically bar food (burgers and fries).. But they have a giant TV screen and plenty of cheap beer. I'm thinking about meeting there before the show. Unless someone suggests a better place. I think most people will be going to the great bars/restaurants downtown.
