Jeff's Letters to Santa Benefit

Recommended Posts

Well, despite your apparent lack of etiquette in offering links to good music, I actually downloaded the first 2 sections put when I look for #3 I get a notice that I can't connect to rbally anymore. Is it just me or is your original link not working? I'd really like to hurry up and download it so I can burn it to CDs and mail it to every house in the greater metropolitan area. :pirate

Also - you could sell them on Ebay!

No, no, no. That wouldn't pollute the bootleg pool nearly quickly enough! I'm going for maximum saturation.

I had an offer to sell copies of the very first Wilco show I ever went to - Pittsburgh 2003 - I turned the dude down. He use to make copies of Beatle boots and sell them for 50 bucks a pop.

Your position is just plain selfish. You're disrespecting the tapers who bring us these recordings just because you don't want to deal with the minor inconvenience of downloading larger files and ripping them to your preferred format. Keep disrespecting them, and they'll stop providing you with the free stuff you so thoughtlessly abuse.

In other words, STFU.

I don't mean any disrespect to the people who do the hard work of taping, transcoding, uploading, etc. Some of my favorite people are tapers. To any of you people who contribute something valuable to the community, I apologize, as it is impossible to express some things correctly on a message board.

To any of you who give attitude to people just because they upload something as MP3, my statement of STFU stands. Anyone who has a attitude towards someone just because they prefer to download their shows as MP3s really needs to check their priorities. I've seen it many times on this board, and it's a downright vicious attitude to have towards someone just because they aren't a member of the underground taping community.

For the record, I am a technology whiz, and have no real problems jumping the hurdles of FLAC, torrents, etc. For some people, however, these are insurmountable, and I see no reason why these people should be shunned or otherwise cast into the underworld of B&Ps.

Mike was there, he joined the band late summer/early fall 2002.

These statements are contradictory. You're trying to have it both ways.

If people can't figure out BitTorrent or are otherwise barred from accessing torrents, they should request B&Ps. Though the B&P is kind of old school these days, it's still done and people are still willing to do them.

also, B&Ps are easy as hell to do. the people offering them are only trying to help folks out.

As are people who offer help to the folks who are having trouble with BT, flac, whatever.

It may come off as attitude, but I really do believe that we're all after the same thing here, just getting good music out to as many people as possible. The only difference seems to be that some people are going for ease and speed (both worth thinking about when you're dying to get your hands on a good show), while others put quality, and the ability to protect the integrity of the recording, as their top priority.

But again, no need to get nasty about it.

And I also love that Pittsburgh show. :music
