Sweet Papa Crimbo
I have always been curious about Laura Nyro and I recently purchased Eli and the 13th Confession. it's completely different from any other style of music than I like, but I actually dig it. I love Poverty Train the best. thoughts? comments? criticisms? bone-head remarks. yeah. Liking the music of Laura Nyro is NOT a guilty pleasure. Watching transvestite dwarf porn while wearing a ball gag IS a guilty pleasure.

LouieB
FYI Her latter stuff is better and does not sound like the early stuff.I would tend to disagree. Some of the later stuff (much later) doesn't have as strong songs on it. Stoned Soul Picnic: The Best of Laura Nyro is the second retrospective album by Bronx-born musician Laura Nyro and the most comprehensive overview of her work to date. This would absolutely be my suggestion for those unfamilar with her work. That way, you may got an ider for what albums you want: 1967 - More Than a New Discovery (later reissued as Laura Nyro, 1969, and as The First Songs, 1973)1968 - Eli and the Thirteenth Confession1969 - New York Tendaberry1970 - Christmas and the Beads of Sweat1971 - Gonna Take a Miracle (with Labelle)1976 - Smile1977 - Season of Lights1978 - Nested1984 - Mother's Spiritual1989 - Laura: Live at the Bottom Line1993 - Walk the Dog and Light the Light2000 - Live at Mountain Stage (recorded 1990)2001 - Angel in the Dark (posthumous album recorded 1994-1995)2002 - Live: The Loom's Desire (recorded 1993-1992003 - Live in Japan (recorded 1994)2004 - Spread Your Wings and Fly (live at the Fillmore East May 30, 1971)1967 - More Than a New Discovery (later reissued as Laura Nyro, 1969, and as The First Songs, 1973)1968 - Eli and the Thirteenth Confession1969 - New York Tendaberry1970 - Christmas and the Beads of Sweat1971 - Gonna Take a Miracle (with Labelle) All of these early records are wonderful and very very well arranged and engineered, in fact the mixing etc on them is nothing short of amazing in most cases. Great songs, in fact her best on these. 1984 - Mother's Spiritual - A great later career album.2004 - Spread Your Wings and Fly (live at the Fillmore East May 30, 1971) My personal favorite live album, done without a band and only Laura playing piano for herself. Some of the other live stuff is less than exciting band wise. LouieB
