remphish1
I went to the travel show at the Javitz Center in NYC where I attended some seminars which I found very interetsing. I saw Rick Steves talk about Europe. He has a cynical view on America Tourist and how obnoxios they were. I found that funny becuase he seems so laid back on tv. The gist of his speach though was to go of the beaten path and see the real Europe not the Europe you see from a 4 star hotel. Anyway afterwords he did a question and answer and book signing. I asked him about if he travels anywhere for pleasure outside of Europe. He said he doesn't and really he doesn't have any desire to in not so many words...interesting. Later, I saw Andrew Zimmer of Bizarre Foods speak. He explained about some of the disgusting things he ate in his career and how he started. He also explained how he never got sick and believes some of the foods he eats are safer than stuff you can buy in the grocery store...glad I went there right before lunch! I also got to ask him on how he does his research and they have a whole elaborate 20 person team and he talks to locals on arrival. Then I got to see Globe Trekkers make a presentation. I love this show! They always go to the most fascinating sites. Megan Mccormick spoke as well as Ian Cross the Producer. The travelers have a lot of say on what they tape and get to suggest locations. I got ot speak to Ian Cross later and discussed what travel web sites they use. He never heard of Virtual Toursit which I suggested. Next I saw Ian Wright present about his new USA travel show. He used to be on Globe Trekekrs but it looks like he moved on. They filmed an episode in Chicago which looked interesting. He is a interesting character and people where treating him like a travel rock star of sorts...it was interesting. Anyways I had a good time there and recommend attending if you haven't before. Besides all the speakers you can go to travel booths for many destinations in the world and get free stuff and talk to experts. Yep...
alison the wilca
sounds awesome. Globe Trekkers (or lonely planet, as is was called at one point) is my favorite travel show... they do some great things. I like to watch travel shows because I can't afford to travel much of anywhere anytime in the forsee-able future.

Edie
I would rather put knitting needles in my eyes than travel anywhere with Rick Steves. Talk about annoying.

Guy is a little nuts with his cool catch-phrases but otherwise he is fairly likable and has good tastes in restaurants. I love a good diner. Or even a bad diner. I would dig this show more if he didn't look like a reject from a Sublime video. Also, his likeability might be out the window now that he's shilling for Applebee's or TGIF's. I don't remember which one it is, but I saw the ad this morning. Doing this kind of shits all over the great diners he spotlights on his show. and that Ace of Cakes guy, he needs to jump in a lake. Mrs. Peel
and that Ace of Cakes guy, he needs to jump in a lake. I watched the first few episodes and realized that I didn't find a single person working there to be likeable. And then I saw one of those Food Network cake decorating challenges and realized that the Ace Of Cakes people aren't just unlikeable, but aren't terribly good, either. I would LOVE to meet Bourdain. That episode with R. Crumb and Marky Ramone confirmed his coolness. The Cleveland episode, but I think you mean Harvey Pekar. R. Crumb lives in France. Funny that he got cool people for that episode, because on the list of places he's gone to, Cleveland is probably in the bottom 5. I mean, how do you compare Cleveland to Malaysia or French Polynesia, seriously.
Mrs. Peel
Shit, that's who I meant! I don't even know why I said R. Crumb!
