remphish1
As I watch the dollar sink further and further my dreams of seeing more of Europe are fleeting away as the dollar sucks! The Euro is now $1.60! GEEEEEEZ! Holy crap! Europe was already expensive when it was $1 to 1 Euro! Now is as good a time as ever for you Europeans to come to America and spend those Euros(not sure if you know it a bunch of stores in NYC now accept Euros!!) Take advantage of it! PopTodd
I'm predicting 2:1 before the end of the summer.
Calexico
Unfortunately, the world needs a strong dollar too. A lot of Irish companies export to the USA and with the disparity in currencies it is making it difficult for exporters to sell their wares.

Sweet Papa Crimbo
However, a weak dollar will help with the balance of trade. Weak $ = more US exports (i.e. cheaper goods)
remphish1
However, a weak dollar will help with the balance of trade. Weak $ = more US exports (i.e. cheaper goods) This is true but other countries goods are still even cheaper....ie Mexico, Bangladesh etc.... Should help tourism in America though... Twisted Acres
Folks from the UK on holiday in NYC are very much enjoying their purchasing power... for instance, at the pub I play every Sunday night, tourists are buying rounds for strangers, tipping insanely generously, and generally spending pounds like they're water! Edie
Mart, I remember doing that, only I was in Paris in '84 and it was 8.75+ francs to the dollar. With a cuppa espresso costing about 4 francs, I spent money like a drunken sailor. My mom was back there over the summer with my three nieces and they couldn't get coffee/croissant for the four of them for less than $20, and often paid more. We are vacationing in the US this year, after scrapping plans to go to Ireland
Twisted Acres
I hear you Edie... it sure must have been fun being able to splurge like that with a clear conscience! I'm doing some shows in Ireland in August, and I'm hoping it doesn't turn into a horribly expensive deal. On a side note: more than a few of the irish bartenders working at other NYC pubs I play are heading home because the pay is better (!!!)
Calexico
I'm doing some shows in Ireland in August More info please (hoping that this isn't a live sex show).

Now this is tragic -- oh the humanity Where are you playing? Sounds like a fun experience; but be prepared for a losing proposition, and just go with it. Maybe buy a few Euro now to hedge them getting more expensive later....
Mrs. Peel
A British friend came over to NYC late last year with 2 suitcases; one half full and one empty. She went home with 2 overflowing suitcases.

John Smith
I have been contemplating a transfer within my company to Europe and the lack of dollar strength is a very heavy factor for me to think about right now.
