Spectacular show, but I'll leave the posting of the setlist and review to the experts...

Photos from last night, taken with a Nikon D80, pretty much front and centre. Apologies to anyone I nudged trying to get an angle on a shot... I reeled off 1000+ photos in the 3 hours, here are the highlights

12 - Jeff was foolin' with his hat all night, taking it off the rapturous applause and bowing to people. I was too busy trying to get the photo to absorb the context of the hat on the heart

20 - Awesome moment, where Jeff and Glenn were trying to figure out when and how to kick off what I believe was Hate it Here. They fumbled it a few time, Jeff made a crack about it, And Glenn hopped up for a good 20 seconds of fan love while he posed

22 - It was an all request show, and someone from stage right yelled out "Kamera!"... Jeff said that noone had voted for it on the website. I immediately corrected him... saying that I'd picked it. (Got cheeky and hedged my bets - Pot Kettle Black voted from home, Kamera from work), and he said "well, you were the only one then". I'm pretty sure that photo was the hat dip after the "give that man his money back!" :dancing

20 - I don't know if it started here, but at the Wellington gig, they were taking the piss out of all the acts at "Rock2Wellington", i.e. Ozzie, Alice Cooper, Whitesnake, etc. Jeff did a good Ozzie impersonation, and Glenn stood up and did his best Heavy Metal Drummer impersonation.

So what's the deal? Are you a professional rock photog? These photos are incredible!!!

Jeff did whip out his tongue and roll his eyes back during Spiders... I'll go through the photos and see if I caught him in rock bliss

Thanks, I am trying! I've been shooting local bands in pubs around Melbourne for the last 3-4 months. Most times I'll just rock up to a show, take photos then send it to the bands. If payment comes, it's normally in the form of free entry and beer... I guess that makes me a semi-professional :thumbup I'm hoping that I can start doing it for a real.. non beer-based living in the next year or two.

Amaaaazing show. Misunderstood was unbelievable as the opener... couldn't believe it.

Love the pics adrian! They're absolutely killer. Very photogenic band too i gotta say, some brilliant poses from Nels and Pat when they were rockin.

Can't wait to see wilco again they blew me away with their delivery.

adrian, where you in front of the rail or in the front row with the audience?. i was in front right in front of jeff, also taking lots of photos. there were quite a few photographers in front of the rail

some other notes:

Shouldn't Be Ashamed - i'm surprised how much of an applause this got as they started it. i would have thought its not that well known.

Impossible Germany - jeff spent more time soloing with Pat on this one. he pretty much kept away from Nels the whole tune

She's a Jar - this was where jeff did his "why do people keep applauding at that harp solo" thing happened. He'd blow the 6 notes and some girl screamed. the next time, he'd raise his hat as she'd scream. and again every time he'd play those notes :lol also, when was the last time they played 5 summerteeth songs in one show?

Spiders (Kidsmoke) - is it just me, or did this sound more like the album version that its ever did?. during the bit where it slows down before starting up again, jeff got down on his knees, took his hat off and gave the audience a sympathetic look. then when it started up again, he jumped up like he sat on a drawing pin!

Walken - jeff was trying to tell a story and Mike kept cutting him off by playing those first couple of piano notes

I'm the Man Who Loves You - This is where glenn got his moment of fame. Jeff played the first note of the intro and then looked at glenn, while raising his head. nothing happened. so he did it again. nothing happened. the Mike joined in and jestured for him to stand up. When he did stand up, a spotlight appeared on his for about 15 seconds.

Red-Eyed and Blue - i was surprised that 5 rockers were played in a row. all they needed to do was tear into Monday to complete the group. this was a definate highlight

by the way, the incident where they kept repeating the intro was I'm the man who loves you, i think. The stage went dark, and a spotlight appeared on Glenn as he stood up for a good 15 seconds

The Lonely 1 - Nice to way to end off. I was surprised since its a simple quiet song, that the 6 of them still had something to do on it.

Then at the end, a few of us got backstage for a bit. During the Autumn defense show earlier in the day, one of us suggested to John a bar thats near the venue. He said they'll be there but i didnt believe it. However, they all did rock up (except for Jeff) and we stayed there till about 3am. It was only the band and friends, plus some sad fans that were in the whole place at that time!

so, thanks Wilco - see you next year? ;)

I was in the crowd. The official photogs were in front of the rail, bastards, but they only got 3 songs before they were all ushered out by security. I was right in front of John, half on the step, half off it... I was pretty much rooted to the spot, so I was lucky I got as many good clear shots as I did. The folks around me were great, and didn't get in my way at all... even apologising when they bumped me. Nothing like a Wilco crowd. None of my Drones photos look the goods, so I'm glad the beer kicked in when Wilco hit the stage. I stopped thinking, and went into autopilot

guys #19 on adrian's gallery is a killer pose! i mean let's be open and honest men, he's a very good looking performer.. :huh

hey also there are a few good photos in there catching eye contact with jeff! he kept looking at me side of stage.. and i noticed how a bit into the set he started really eyeing people off in the crowd, made a good connection.

i also reckon that streak in the encore where they totally went hammers was amazing. really rocked out.

number 19 is the best...he does that pose all the time usually i think its Walken that he does it during..but I'd have to listen to the show from Des Moines to see if thats right...i remember by hearing it.

Great show, and great to meet froggie and sharon. Did Jeff ever show up for the afterparty?

Hi

Last night's show was just amazing. First time I'd seen a Wilco concert.

I expected lots because of Kicking Television and some other recordings I have, and I wasn't disappointed.

Jeff has amazing stage presence.

I'd love to hear your AUD in full, whatboutbob.

adrian76, I was right behind you (to the right). :)

Very cool to see another VCer, and thanks for the great photos (there were certainly plenty of people taking photos around our neck of the woods last night, and all I was thinking was 'I hope someone posts on Via Chicago' because I was sans camera)...

And what an awesome show... 2.5 hours of aural bliss.

hey surround fan... sorry for being so tall!

I've just gone through and picked out another 20 shots, the well is dry now, that's the best of them.

http://adriancarmody.carbonmade.com/projects/2038963

a big thanks for all the kind emails people are sending about the shots - it's all still pretty new to me, so the encouragement is awesome. I wasn't expecting this huge reaction, especially people wanting prints made of them. I'm organising some A4 prints now. Check the second batch of shots incase you want to change your order

LOL... That's cool. I got to see enough Nels Cline guitar action through the course of the evening, and now it's beautifully captured. :worship

(As for the drunken prat who kept bumping and jumping into me during the rock numbers in an (ultimately futile) effort to push me out of the way I was mighty annoyed :realmad)
