mpolak21
The Rutles were the most important band in my development as a music fan, as after seeing All You Need is Cash, I went on to check out the Beatles, the rest, as they say, is history. Tough to decide but I'd probably go with Let's Be Natural just barely over Doubleback Alley. --Mike
wallflower77
I just stumbled across this on TV tonight, taping the late showing. I'm pretty fond of "I Must Be In Love."

DAngerer09
Am I a bad person? Because I don't know who the hell the Rutles are.
tugmoose
Am I a bad person? Because I don't know who the hell the Rutles are.Not "bad", but uninformed. After all, it was 30 years ago today . . . or yesterday, or a few days ago, anyway.

tugmoose
All four Rutles reunited this month. Makes me a little sad for that other British group.
j4lackey
"Leggy Mountbatten went home and tragically..... accepted a teaching post in Australia". Gawd, it wasn't bad enough that my brother and I memorized that whole movie, but my twelve year old did the same, and for a while, any time he had someone over for a sleepover, he made them watch it, assuming they would love it as much as him. In this day and age however, he had to not only explain who Monty Python were, but who the Beatles were (nine year olds!). I told him to give his friends a break for a few years. "C-H-E-E-S-E A-N-D O-N-I-O-N-S ONO..."

PopTodd
Sad to say that I don't know The Rutles as well as I should. But I am a huge Bonzo Dog Band and Monty Python fan (note my icon).So... a purchase should be in my near future.
Hoodoo Man
For a laugh I'd go with any of these: Goose-Step Mama, Blue Suede Schubert or Ouch! There are some really good tunes though like Hold My Hand, Double-Back Alley and Cheese And Onions. He knew exactly how much Beatles to mix in without the songs being a total rip. Brilliant stuff! Welsh Rich
I get to roll out my Rutles story... John Halsey is the landlord of my local pub! Serves some of the best fish 'n chips, and pints, this side of the Severn... Picture of him not behind the bar:
Synthesizer Patel
You should also add that he was the drummer in Patto, and the song The Man used to be the coming on stage song for Wilco for a while a few years back. And I think that "Admiral Halsey" in Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey by Paul McCartney is in reference to him, also . . . . Kevin Bacon also likes them (that bit I made up). And, obviously, Ricky Fataar was in The Beach Boys, but that's got nothing to do with Wilco.

Somnambulist
Teenage Fanclub did a nice cover of "Between Us." I've got a Rutles tribute album from a number of years ago. Bongwater, King Missle, Marc Ribot and Syd Straw, etc. Good stuff.
