remphish1
Hey all, I known there are a ton of Rhett Miller Fans here. Seeing him at Maxwells on Thursday and was wondering what to expect. I have seen the Old 97's once years ago and liked it. What about his solo shows...does he tour with a backing band? Does he play a lot of Old 97's songs? How long are his sets..any info would be great!
uncool2pillow
He has toured w/ a backing band, but with the upcoming release of the new Old 97's CD, my guess is that it will be solo, acoustic. I saw him do an acoustic show about a year ago. Plenty of 97s and solo stuff mixed together. Expect him to sing the chorus of "Question" in French. Hoping to see the 97's on their upcoming tour. bleedorange
Some bad solo songs, with maybe a few good Old 97's songs thrown in.
JUDE
Some weird double-jointed guitar windmill things.
Mr. Kinsley
Expect bodily fluids. Don't get a spot right in front of him. He seems to spit a lot when he sings. Also, at an Old 97's show at the Viper Room he had to go through the crowd to get backstage and walked right by me. I absent-mindedly gave him a pat on the back and said "great show." That was one of the dumbest things I've ever done. My hand was met with a wet, clammy shirt drenched with sweat - so much so that my hand was literally soggy. It's not like I couldn't see him flinging sweat everywhere from all the way in the back of the room. My friend's wife who was there said, "Oh my God! I'm so jealous!" In other words, keep a healthy distance.
uncool2pillow
Some bad solo songs, with maybe a few good Old 97's songs thrown in. I think his solo material is nearly as solid as the 97s stuff. I hate that his last album recycled 2 97s songs, esp. "Question". He solo stuff certainly has a more polished, pop sound. I can see how many wouldn't care for that. But the songwriting is every bit as solid.
LouieB
So how WAS he??? LouieB
remphish1
So how WAS he??? LouieB He is quite energetic! He certianly enjoys doing those mini windmills. I was unfamilar with a lot fo the songs he played but the ones he played he played fast and furious. He stated that he had dozens of songs he wanted to play so he wasn't going to talk so he can play more. He played a handful of songs off the new Old 97's record which is supposed to be released in May. He said it should leak this week and they just gave the album to the press Good time! I am soo sleepy though as I went to three concerts in three days...I can't keep this up like I used to in my younger days!
