Wendy
I think it would be nice if we let LouieB, who has been VC's ambassador to Chicago for so many people create a sort of definitive "Visiting Chicago?" thread that we could pin. I can't speak for the other mods, but I'm in favor of it and would be happy to take it to the other mods/admins and see if anyone has any serious objections to it. And I do think LouieB was given a little bit of unintended disrespect in this thread (I believe the original poster had no idea just how many Wilco fans LouieB has helped over the years here at VC, and the considerable time and effort he's spent doing this). If it were not for LouieB's hospitality, I would probably not know any of you. And I sorta like you knuckleheads. So LouieB, are you up for doing this? Edit: Woah! Jules!!! Nice work! Thanks for digging up those links!
afterthefact
You should know with your 45 years of internet experience that what you wrote would not come across as just a joke. It reads like what it is - an annoyed response. Maybe if you keep crying about it, you will... Ah, nevermind, cause you will just take me too seriously again You should try to visit the Wilco loft if you have the time. That, my friend, would be quite ideal. Are you able to visit there? Doug C
I hate the internet for this reason. When I replied, I was being sarcastic; I was joking. But unfortunately that didn't come across as others read it, and instead people feel the need to write 5 paragraphs in defense of something that didn't need to be defended.I just wanted to let everyone know that as much as this sounds, well more accurately reads, like me, it was not me. I am trying to no longer annoy your good-hearted hearts. Also, afterthefact, I am not taking a shot at you. I am more trying to bring some levity. Damn. I droned on again. Maybe I am not trying hard enough...
afterthefact
I know, and the only thing I really want to say is that I truly, no joke, almost never get annoyed. I hardly ever get angry; at most I might be frustrated, but that's about it. I am pretty much always happy (almost to a sickening point, according to my wife) and any signs that I am pissed at somebody can almost always be taken as a joke. Frankly i am not THE expert so a thread will help alot. I know, and the only thing I really want to say is that I truly, no joke, almost never get annoyed. I am pretty much always happy (almost to a sickening point, according to my wife) and any signs that I am pissed at somebody can almost always be taken as a joke. Well I will take it as a joke if you like. I was very tired from driving in from southern IL, but frankly since I have been getting flamed off and on since the internet was still text only, I figured I had no reason NOT to flame back. But you have to figure that this is a fairly well established website that has a pretty long history of advising folks on what to do in Chicago besides see Wilco. I particularly enjoyed the interchange during the Residency concerning the SROs in Uptown and the need for most fans to find a less bedbug and roach infested place to spend the night. Sadly you missed that. (Maybe at this point you COULD tell us a bit more about yourself and what your expectations are.....we are all still willing to help. Frankly if check out the Reader or Time Out sites you will leave far more than anyone here can tell you. edit....okay afterthefact.....you show up at the Beat Kitchen for the Bottle Rockets (its 18 and over in case you aren't 21 yet) and I will buy you a beer....something I have done with any number of VCers....actually this is going to be a great place to be (despite the Beat Kitchen being one of my least favorite rooms.) And the Bottle Rockets are always a rockin good time. Oh yea...justadreamhesbeenhaving..you can have one too.......I KNOW you are over 21....enough anyway. TG will probably be there too. Tenderloin
Unfortunately I will be out of town this weekend, but if you want to eat at a great neighborhood joint in Old Town, send me a PM with the time you'd like to eat and how many will be in your party. I might be able to do something for ya...if you like ribs that is.

LouieB
After all the talk here, I did make it to the Bottle Rockets. It seemed to be the place to be for the slightly older rock crowd last night. The BoRox turned in a fine and very loud performance celebrating their 15th anniversary. They played a ton of stuff over a fast two and a half hour set. While many bands would have thrown in the towel in that amount of time (Brian even made a joke about who was no longer around) and under the difficult circumstances with trying to make it in the music business and having some very lean years (Brian is much skinnier now too), they are still around and sounding as good as ever (though I always miss Tom Ray on bass.) Fun fun night and they are going to record a new record this summer. Yeah!!! (Was anyone else there??) LouieB
