Guest Moses
that's an interesting list. i'm not sure why they switched no. 2 and no. 13, but whatever. i'm not at all a fan of Titanic. i have no idea why Terminator 2 would be so low (no. 78). and i'm really surprised to see Casino Royale sitting at no. 19. i really liked that movie, but wow. Guest Cousin Tupelo
The List "Top 100 best films 1983- 2008" If that's the 100 best movies, it doesn't say much about the industry over the past 25 years. Granted they note some of the true "new classics" but there's a lot of chaff on this list.
mountain bed
What, no Sling Blade? For shame.
Sir Stewart
Blue Velvet in the top five. I like this list.

Gobias Industries
How is Spiderman 2 better than There Will Be Blood? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? Please, for real? I'm ok with the top 10 (though Lion King should be there instead of Toy Story, I think) but from there it's just a pile of junk. It's also unfortunate that A History of Violence didn't make it alongside the Princess Bride...

I'm ok with the top 10 (though Lion King should be there instead of Toy Story, I think) Bite your tongue. Toy Story was an amazing achievement. There's so much missing that belongs and so much that doesn't belong. This list looks like it was pulled out of the major studios' back pocket.
Gobias Industries
Bite your tongue. Well, you don't have to get all ornery about that, it's just my opinion, which apparently isn't good enough.

Guest Cousin Tupelo
This list looks like it was pulled out of the major studios' ass. Actually, I bet anyone foolish enough to buy the issue of EW with this list in it would duly note that the studios' spend on advertising is in direct relation to their movies' placement on the list. mountain bed
Nice to see Do The Right Thing on there, but Malcolm X should really be on that list. I thought that was one of the better documentary-style movies of the last 20 years.
remphish1
How is Casino Royale 19?! I saw it when it came out and I barley remember what it was about! Also Back to the Future should be in the top 20 not 91!
cryptique
Terrible fucking list from a joke of a publication. Of the ones I've seen and remember pretty well, the following (at least) would never make it anywhere near my own top 100: 3. Titanic (1997) 6. Saving Private Ryan (1998) 9. Die Hard (1988) 16. Boogie Nights (1997) 17. Jerry Maguire (1996) 18. Do the Right Thing (1989) 25. Shrek (2001) 36. Spider-Man 2 (2004) 37. Pretty Woman (1990) 39. The Sixth Sense (1999) 40. Speed (1994) 41. Dazed and Confused (1993) 43. Gladiator (2000) 52. The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad (1988)55. Risky Business (1983)57. There’s Something About Mary (1998) 58. Ghostbusters (1984)60. Scream (1996)61. Beverly Hills Cop (1984)65. Dirty Dancing (1987) 66. Natural Born Killers (1994) 70. Broadcast News (1987)79. Waiting for Guffman (1996)85. The 40 Year-Old Virgin (2005)87. Swingers (1996)88. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)90. Napoleon Dynamite (2004)91. Back to the Future (1985)99. The Blair Witch Project (1999)100. South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut (1999) Moving on...
Beltmann
Has EW ever pretended to be anything other than an echo of popular taste? This list reads exactly as expected.
uncool2pillow
Has EW ever pretended to be anything other than an echo of popular taste? This list reads exactly as expected.I usually ignore EW because of this, but c'mon. Give them SOME credit. Crumb at #14?? That's sublime. That said. I think Royal Tenenbaums is Wes Anderson's masterpiece, not Rushmore; and it didn't make the list at all. In fact, I like Bottle Rocket better than Rushmore. Overall, I think EW deserves some credit for the number of indie movies on that list. Excluding Titanic, it's a pretty fair top 10.
Beltmann
Overall, I think EW deserves some credit for the number of indie movies on that list.Maybe, except that even those titles tend to be the usual, best known suspects of the "indie" circle. I'm not complaining--I think it's a fine list for the intended readership, and I wouldn't expect them to include, say, more international fare. Nice to see In the Mood for Love on there (even though I would have gone with Chungking Express).
