you're not looking at them correctly.

Any reason I give to you will not satisfy you, and I don't really care. To be honest, I've gotten past the point of trying to explain my beliefs in anything more than superficial terms on message boards. Mostly because I don't have many concrete ones. My views are subject to change, and I don't like to dig myself a hole that I'll have to try to explain my way out of.

i fully condone airbrushing.

Thank you for at least trying to explain yourself. I can respect that.

you've come a long way in the last day or so.

I think the discussion came a long way in the last day or two. But then it quickly de-evolved.

don't be too sure. mccain said we would need another draft only if world war III occurs. now imagine a president mccain. what do you think will occur if we're in afghanistan and iraq, and then attack iran? the result (including the draft) isn't a certainty, but it is a possibility. like kidsmoke, i am old enough to remember vietnam, the draft, and especially the lottery system that works under the draft. believe me, you wouldn't like it.

Reinstating the draft would be political suicide for anyone who votes for it. Short of a nuclear terrorist attack in U.S. soil, I don't see it happening.

i'm sure you're right, though it's too bad. the policy changes that would result from reinstating the draft would be a big step in a better direction.

Reinstating the draft might have the desired effect of fewer wars. That's Rangel's position -- and it's also driven by the fact that the army is primarily made up of racial minorities and poor people. The draft would bring in more sons/daughters of rich white folks -- thus limiting our seemingly endless desire to go to war.

Oh and for the record, beavers are nice.

In theory, but there had always seemed to be plenty of wiggle room for those with the means to get around the draft -- not quite the Civil War days of paying someone to go in your place, but ways nonetheless.

Having that in place is one thing. Actually utilizing it is another. The political price to pay would be enormous.

exactly. and i didn't know of rangel's position. if only it wouldn't be political suicide for him to get louder about this, but of course it would be.

If you are a man ages 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., then you must register with Selective Service. It
