Have you ever been to South Florida? You can't just say that and then say we have to adopt mass transit. This isn't Chicago. It isn't New York. The cities weren't planned with this in mind.

It's fine to criticize if you actually have an idea of what to do, but the fact of the matter is in Miami, and many North American cities, public transportation isn't a feasible option for the foreseeable future, and it has nothing to do with the lifestyle of the citizens and everything to do with a lack of city planning from the highest levels. Miami built out rather than up.

I'd bet buses with 100 people on them could fit in those lanes created for personal automobiles.

Jeez, I didn't realize that inalienable human rights were strictly a fiscal matter.

No but having the free time, since you're not an indentured servant working for some conservative land owner, to rally for these rights is a by product of a high standard of living.

"The retirement savings of workers across the country, entrusted to pension fund managers, are being plowed into one of the few investments that has delivered phenomenal returns in recent years...The risk is that if the remarkable run in oil and other futures markets reverses course, billions of dollars of retirement benefits could be wiped out." - SFGate

Hmm, maybe Bush's lifting of the ban was a way for his buddies to short these futures thus wiping out the retirement funds of these poor folks and making billions of dollars in the process. Bwahhaha.

I think JUDE is right about the continuing demand-growth for oil keeping prices generally trending upward. There may be fluctuations and many suspect the price will go down in a hurry if alternative energy starts approaching oil in (relative) affordability, but I would feel safe investing in oil companies.

Someone's been brushing up on his Mazlow's Hierarchy of Needs.

So it's either slavery or destruction of our natural resources. I can see now that the choice is really easy for you.

And rest assured, you will not hesitate to let us all know how rich you are.

I'm not rich in the least, but I am comfortable.

Sorry, not to fit into your classist attack.

you have GOT to be kidding me.

Well, people who can't afford to be liberal sometimes become revolutionary.

Speaking as one who has reaped some of the benefits of the recent administration, I will truly miss the big guy.
Exactly.

Well not exactly "fuck everyone else" but I've enjoyed some of the opportunities that have arisen with out too much government interference.

Sorry you find success so distasteful.

Vibes.

Well, I don't like to brag but you won't hear me complaining about high gas prices.

If you catch my drift. :flirt

That sounds about right. And the other people care about dying on piles of money, surrounded by hot chicks in bikinis, all of which they are happily married to.

That's how I picture El Famous and JUDE's weekly meetings.

The point of my argument was to say that I can't afford it. So what is the harm in starting now to make sure we're both covered when things get worse than they are right now from an oil price standpoint? I don't begrudge you the ability to drive wherever you want to go, but I do think you need to accept that that isn't going to be a feasible way of life for everyone.

Edit: OWL

You obviously aren't familiar with the saying tongue-in-cheek, huh.

I have been poor and liberal most of my life. I don't get the statement in the first place.

I'm not begrudging you any choices or opportunities, throw on those Birkenstocks and jump on your bike path, I have no problem helping fund those sorts of things.
