ction
http://www.arktimes.com/blogs/rockcandy/20...rsalrepubl.aspx After releasing its last two albums via a distribution deal with Warner Bros., but on its own Liberty & Lament imprint, Lucero's now gone all in with the majors, signing a four album deal with Universal/Republic. Here's how guitarist Brian Venable explained the move:
mjpuczko
they deserve some bigger publicity. nice guys
myboyblue
I love these guys and hope it works out well for them. I thought Rebels was a great release that came out without much fanfare. Just a very solid, straightforward rock band.
mjpuczko
i agree. overtime i've come to really enjoy that album.
solace
yeah it was great, just had 3 really great predecessors is it's biggest "flaw"
PigSooie
These dudes kick all kinds of ass.
CortezTheKiller
yeah it was great, just had 3 really great predecessors is it's biggest "flaw" Touche.

The songs are great but they seem to lack that punch that "Nobody's Darling" had.
ction
The 3 albums Kyle referrenced were all great in different ways, with That Much Further... sorta being a hybrid of the more mellow country Tennessee and ND, which sounds pretty much the way they do live. I don't think the songs on the last record were as good, but then again I don't know many bands whose 5th album is as good as their 2nd or 3rd (yes, I'm looking at you, semi-obscure former alt country band with a popular if sometimes dysfunctional unofficial message board). I agree with you but I think "That Much Further" lacked some production punch as well. I may not be articulating it right but sometimes it seems like the drums should crash or a guitar should crunch a bit more. That said, it's probably my favorite of their albums. PigSooie
Man, I really like 'That Much Further"
uwmryan
good for them, hope they make some money and didn't give up too much creative control.
Spawn's dad
If they get big I'm afraid Stubblefield won't have dinner with me anymore.
M. (hristine
I've never understood why these guys haven't reached the next level. They are fine musicians and Roy Barry is a merciless drummer. Nichols has got to be one of the most charismatic front men to hit the stage in a long time and he's got a way with the tunes. Christ they never stop touring. I hope this does it for them. They are all really humble, genuinely good guys.
PigSooie
Word around Memphis is Lucero is over at Ardent working on their new album. : They are also going to be on an episode of MTV's $5 Cover in a few months. This was recorded at Young Avenue Deli in Memphis. http://www.mtv.com/videos/misc/354381/san-francisco.jhtml
M. (hristine
The one good tune off of that miserable album. After the perfection of Last Pale Light in the West, I am holding my breath that this could be half as good. Nichols' songwriting skills grew exponentially on LPLW. M. (hristine
I guess I couldn't get past the trendy shift to the neo-Springsteen sound. Lucero always had the x factor sound that was unique. Stripped down. I have the hard headed tendency to dismiss albums that seem to want to jump on a bandwagon. I blame it on David Lowry. I'll listen to it again.
solace
i'm kinda with you... i liked the last Lucero record, but the keys thing def threw me for a loop somewhat. but besides that I just didn't feel like the songwriting was up there with their previous records
PigSooie
Look. There should be no negative comments toward this band!
solace
hey now, i still really enjoyed it! not negative, just not as great

mjpuczko
i can see that i just don't get 'the springsteen sound' thing. just because there is keys or horns in an album it's springsteen-esque?
PigSooie
Hey, man. I like horns.
