Told you all they were peaking!

I'm on a roll!

Kelly Hrudey of Hockey Night in Canada thinks Mats Sundin makes the Canucks a Stanley Cup contender, and he's not the only person I've heard say that. He is, however, one of the best commentators in the business, I think.

The great thing is that Mats took less money, about 1.5 million less, that, prorated at the trade deadline will mean they can acquire a 6 million dollar player wooo.

How are you feeling about the Canucks tonight at home against the hottest team in hockey?

I was not aware the Canucks were playing the Bruins tonight :P

Well, law of averages says the Hawks won't win tonight, I guess it all depends on how Sanford plays. Historically, the Canucks have played very well against good teams in the past few years... it's the bottom 10-teams the Nucks tend to have problems with. Like the Kings last season and the Blues the season before that.

Man, watching the Hawks/Canucks game tonight, I'm struck by a few things:

1-Byfuglien on the Hawks is a minor leaguer playing way above his station.

2-Bieksa on the Canucks takes some poor runs at people and is overly aggressive. It's only a matter of time before someone gets totally fed up with it (hopefully tonight) and absolutely buries him.

3-Outside of the Sedins, the Canucks don't have any big names in the lineup with Luongo hurt and they're still playing good hockey night in and night out. Sundin coming in and Luongo getting healthy can only make this team the winner of their division.

4-The two Patricks on Chicago are killers. Just give them the puck. Period.

That was a really good game (Nucks and Hawks) it could have gone either way. I really like the intensity Bieksa plays with, that's how the North West is played.

Ohlund isn't a big name?? Maybe it's cause he's a defenseman, but yeah I see what you're saying, that's why I have so much faith in the team this year. Compare the Nucks to the Sens. The Sens are built around "The Big 3" and that's it. The Canucks, every player is useful and plays their role perfectly. That's how you get a team that goes far... almost every team in the league has their star player... Jerome Iginla, Sidney Crosby, Marian Gaborik, Roberto Luongo, etc etc. It's expected that you have those players, what's important is the rest of the team. That was the problem with the Canucks last year, they had plugs like Byron Ritchie, Jeff Cowan, Brad Isbister, Ryan Shannon, and Aaron Miller none of whom are in the NHL this year. Then there's team chemistry, which is part of why I think the Hawks are so successful, because all of those kids are friends, as are the Canucks.

It fills me with joy when I imagine watching that team play so hard with Mats Sundin and Roberto Luongo in a few weeks. Oh man.

That was a great game. And I love intensity: Bieksa seemed on the verge of going a little too far at times last night. But a great match-up overall.

To be honest, I had the Canucks pegged as maybe an 8th-10th place team for this year, just below the Hawks. Both teams have far exceeded my expectations. I had that division (Calgary, Minnesota, Colorado, Vancouver) pegged as probably the most evenly-matched division coming into the year (but not necessarily in a good way). I figured that division would give us 3rd in the West (Minnesota) and the remainder of the teams missing the playoffs. It's been a pleasant surprise and I think it's the reason that the Hawks, who sit 4th in the West with the 3rd most points, cannot relax for even a game. It's too close and it should be REALLY fun come games 80, 81, and 82.

Anyone else going to the Winter Classic?

It's spendy, but I'll be finely toasted.

Yep, I'm going with 2 friends. We're high up in the bleachers, but it should be a blast. Where are you sitting?

Agreed. I'd rather be way up there than in the lower section. I don't think those people will be able to see much of anything.

I'm just hoping that the warm weather doesn't cancel the game!

Yeah, actually the closest seats to the ice were the cheapest ($75 I think). I'm way out in the bleachers, but higher up, so I might at least see the movement (binoculars too).

I don't really care. Should be a great atmosphere.

I need to pick up some binocs. And yes, the atmosphere is going to be great. I'm just trying to figure out how I don't pass out at the game. Going to be a late night and an early morning. Boot and rally. Got my longjohns ready...
