Guest Speed Racer
First marathon in just eleven hours and six minutes. Like, that's a LONG way. Eleventh hour panic? I was doing fine but now I'm wicked terrified! (For what it's worth, I think I just had one too many brownies and the sugar is mixing with the adrenaline in a wicked triple-shot sort of way.) I'm prepared. Two 20-milers and a 20+ mile relay adventure this summer. My clothes are laid out, my chip and bib are affixed to their appropriate places. But I'm scared! I think mostly I'm just worried about the impending, prolonged physical discomfort. So! Think of me fondly tomorrow morning. Or un-fondly. But geez. That's a long, long way. But I can do it! I hope! With only moderate prolonged discomfort! And at least some of my toenails at the end! With any luck, I'll be done before you finish the Times crossword...

austrya
Awesome. I'd love to run a marathon one day but my hips have other plans. I miss running. Good luck and we expect a full report when you're done!
Guest Speed Racer
Awesome. I'd love to run a marathon one day but my hips have other plans. I took up biking in July after I was fairly certain I would have a legs/torso separation at the hips on a long run one day. My heel has the makings of a stress fracture, and my upper hamstrings (clinical term: ass) make me feel like the Tin Man before the oil. But at least I'll have a good 26 miles to warm up. I have greater trochanteric bursitis in both hips and for whatever reason it's flared up right now. It never really goes away, but with Motrin , it's manageable. I know what I feel like after I walk around town, so I can't imagine what I'd feel like after running. A few years ago I ran quite a bit until I got pregnant and developed the bursitis. Ever since then I have had it and haven't been able to run. My goal was to run the Chicago Marathon one day. My doctor suggests swimming for me. Biking is still too much pressure on my joints. Griddles
My dad just finished his 4 marathon in a year and a half. Good Luck! No way you will ever see me running that much. Guest Speed Racer
3:40:47! 0:47 off of Boston qualifying for my age group!! But damn it was an AWESOME experience! Will definitely do it again! TORRENTIAL RAINS for 20 miles. A road flooded for about a mile (3 to 4 inches), and it was like competing in two-thirds of a triathlon. The temp was about 50, and my roommate dropped out with hypothermia. Moments after crossing the finish line, after feeling (relatively) fine, I become ridiculously delirious and a nice lady walked me to my rendezvous point, where my friend's parents dressed me without a word and four cups of coffee appeared from the ether. I put one in my foil blanket to create a quasi-poaching environment. I called my parents, who interrupted me at one point and said, "Are there other people with you?" I said, "Yeah, why?" "You just repeated the same sentence three times." I just removed my shoes, and 'trench foot' is really the only phrase that adequately describes the situation. And my gait is eerily reminiscent of my grandparents'.
mountain bed
Way to go Lauren! We are VERY proud of you. I cannot even imagine - I did a mini once when I was 15 - well over 30 years ago. No way I could do it now.
jenbobblehead
That is certainly something to be proud of, but I'm sorry you didn't qualify for Boston. its overrated anyway! I think there's a marathon in baltimore next weekend--come to that one!
