ShuckOwens
I was notified via email that two of the fan animations (for two of my favorite Wilco songs) I posted on YouTube were removed due to a music rights complaint by the owner. I found this odd, as these were private videos for many months now, not public. Then I searched for some of my favorite fellow Wilco fan animations: *poof*. Pretty hardcore. I don't know of anyone neglecting to buy a song or album simply because they could listen to it for free in dazzling @96kps quality.
ELS
My friend and I were trying to find a Tegan and Sara video the other day and it was just about impossible. I guess WBR is cracking down on people posting their content on YouTube...
mfwahl
WB and Youtube's agreement expired a couple of weeks ago. WB said something to the effect of: until we hammer out the details we'll do whatever we can to protect our artists.
Rusty Shackleford
The band has always been pretty clear that they didn't consent to video taping at their shows. But that's weird that they would start enforcing it all of a sudden. Maybe this is a label thing, or maybe it has something to do with the upcoming DVD? If I were them, I wouldn't want to ban the Youtube clips--they're not good enough to stand as a substitute to the DVD (no offense to any tapers, of course), but just good enough to make someone who hasn't seen them live want to buy a ticket. I agree with you that viewing clips probably has the opposite effect in which they obviously fear: stunting media sales in some way. My clips were using a song as a music bed for an animation that I was inspired to create, and share. Some other fans had shared similar work... some, I assume are also posters here, and were pulled as well. It's the first time I have encountered a complaint and subsequent yanking due to a music bed being used. I clearly indicated on the postings (which were not even public, but private at the time) that these were works from a fan, and not official in any capacity. This said, I completely understand why such a claim might be made to remove such content... it just did not strike me that anyone representing Wilco might be peeved at a fan sharing his creative work in tribute. Rusty Shackleford
Oops. Yeah, that is weird. Somehow I doubt the band cares a lot about those Reprise-era videos.

Btw, your Darjeeling sig is awesome. --Mike

Now I'm obsessed with it.haha what a joke... who exactly are they protecting removing these videos? In their defense, they did effectively protect you from my videos. They were pretty bad.
