Iowan
Mike Cooley is the greatest American born songwriter since Tom Petty. Jeff Tweedy is 2nd. Eddie Vedder is 3rd. Patterson is the "front man" for the DBTs, and he writes some great songs, but it's the Cooley songs that blow my mind. The man has a way w/words I've never seen before. LouisvilleGreg
I might be close to agreeing on that assessment about Cooley. His songs seem totally effortless but always pack quite the emotional punch, and his straight up rockers are as catchy as anything I can think of. I have friends who've never gotten beyond Kiss and ACDC from middle school who are blown away by songs like "3 Dimes Down," and "Marry Me." If there were any justice in the world the guy would be a huge rock star, with 13 year old kids hanging posters of him up on their walls.
Degenerex
I agree about Cooley. I'd put him right up there with Craig Finn and Jeff Tweedy.
bleedorange
Cooley is easily my favorite, too.
