dondoboy
it's hipster bull shit. that's what's not to like. 'oh, let's see how odd we can be like all the other shitty bands out there now like of montreal and beruit'.Who's "of Montreal"? And can they kiss my ass?
jakobnicholas
I think the camel is definitely symbolizing a fan's love for music or a band. The party is to celebrate said band or music. The new album is a celebration of music, life. If it's at all political, the camel could symobolize making it through "a crappy 8 years of existence" (something Jeff said...which I think is a bit wrong-headed, but I digress), and we're celebrating a new existence and hope. The camel got us throgh the desert. All the above could be COMPLETELY wrong. But regardless, I like the cover. It's the fact it's so wierd that's making us think about it. The YHF, AGIB and SBS albums were kinda sleek and cool, but dull. This new cover has personality.
Central Scrutinizer
i'm completely serious. Were you frightened by Joe Camel as a child? Waiting on PETA to boycott the album. Protests that the cover promotes smoking among youth.

cryptique
the new artwork is complete crap! i was really hoping for some amazing minimalist picture in the vein of yhf, sbs. those covers went hand in hand with the music. my hopes are beginning to wain about this record. i might listen to it before the release after all. oh well.it's hipster bull shit. that's what's not to like. 'oh, let's see how odd we can be like all the other shitty bands out there now like of montreal and beruit'.The only whiff of "hipster" I'm getting here is coming from you, because you're taking this so seriously. IT'S A FUCKING ALBUM COVER. Get a grip.
Leo
How'd they get the camel up there? My first thought, too.The camel looks so damned pleased and proud to be gracing the cover of a Wilco album. Of course, who wouldn't?
Jrh79
The font is the only thing I don't love about it. It doesn't match the pic, IMO. It is fantastic though, and I agree that it's probably a "we're not taking ourselves too seriously" thing. Not that we can see it in the photo, but the font does match the sign in the background, Mader's. I only know this being from Milwaukee. Anyway, Mader's is very popular old-time German restaurant. Impossibly German, even. (*ducks*)
Guest Speed Racer
I like this. My first explanation on Page 2 was in jest; I'm pretty confident it's just a camel with a hat on next to a party cake.
Mrs. Peel
Jen, someone mentioned the name of the restaurant in the background, and you can see (just past the camel's front hump [NAPE]) that the font matches the restaurant's name: (Is that picture showing up?) So yeah, I think that's kind of cool. Yeah, I got the inside joke, I just don't like it!

I second this statement.. the album cover should not be a factor in whether or not the album is good..just enjoy the music, man! I think the cover art is great

cryptique
Yeah, I see a car through the fence. Beat me to it. Unless they park on the roof in that neighborhood, this is at street level.
gogo
Yeah, I got the inside joke, I just don't like it! Like it! You must like it, damn it! The camel isn't "up" anywhere.OK, this one took me a minute. But yeah, now I see it. I was also looking at it like that was on a rooftop-patio kind of space.
jff
On AGIB they tipped their hat to NEU!. On SBS they tipped their hat to Relatively Clean Rivers. This time...
uwmryan
The chairs in the shot are originals from Turner Hall Ballroom and have a lot of years on them.
adl6690
Pitchfork reaction I sense some sarcasm there, but I kinda feel like they are digging the not taking themselves seriously thing...
Tanner
This cover is clearly a metaphor for Jeff trying to kick Camel Lights. Love the cover- it's hilarious.
