he beat louisville and kentucky back to back in the final four to win his last championship in '75, plus i think he was born around here, certainly the all-time greatest.

One of the best to ever come from Hoosierland. The very personification of the phrase "class act".

 

It's hard for some younger folks to even imagine how consistent, and unbeatable, his teams were for about a dozen years. One things for sure - we won't see anyone like The Coach ever again.

He won 88 games in a row, 10 championships in 12 years, 7 consecutive national championships (no other team has more than two in the modern era), never had an NCAA violation and only received one technical (for something that wasn't his fault). He also probably inspired more slurpy columns by sportswriters than any other figure, but they were all well deserved.
