HungryHippo
a new super-group! these guys just announced themselves the other day. here are a couple of links for anyone who wishes to check them out: KCRW Performance Fistful of Mercy
choo-choo-charlie
I didn't care for the first track that they were streaming...I'll have to check out more of it to make an informed decision. I enjoy most everything Ben Harper participates in.
welch79
this band was featured on the nbc show parenthood last week (watch it on hulu!). not sure how you feel about this show, i have enjoyed it, but most of the music they feature is indie in nature and good. whoever is doing the writing has good musical taste. some artists whom have had tracks featured from past episodes (now in season two): ray lamontagne's new album, the avett brothers, drew holcomb and the neighbors, amos lee... those are just off the top of my head. mjpuczko
i like parenthood, quite a bit actually, but that ray lamontagne thing was annoying. they brought his name up every 3 minutes it seemed like
Shakespeare In The Alley
Man, high school me LOVED Ben Harper's music. But I lost interest sometime after Both Sides Of The Gun, which I still consider a great album. I have all his releases up to that point, but I never paid any attention to Lifeline, Relentless7 or this new band. Am I missing anything good?
welch79
i like parenthood, quite a bit actually, but that ray lamontagne thing was annoying. they brought his name up every 3 minutes it seemed likeagreed. it was a little forced in that episode. especially for an album that could be described as "a little forced." maybe it was snarky, intellectual commentary on the album?? doubt it. anyway, yeah. solace
Ben Harper stopped being good after he released Burn To Shine. he's put out a few great songs since then but never a full album. Relentless7 was my least favorite thing he'd done honestly

choo-choo-charlie
I enjoyed quite a bit of Relentless7. I thought it was good to hear Ben turning up the volume again after Lifeline. Both Sides of the Gun was a great record, in my humble opinion...it seemed to divide a lot of people.

I never listened to the acoustic disc that much, but I always thought the electric disc is pretty great. Serve Your Soul is especially incredible. I've revisited that disc recently and it's held up quite well.
HungryHippo
the album was released today and if you can't buy it, no one around here has it in stock, then you can stream it for free over at Rolling Stone: As I Call You Down never listened to much Ben Harper, but as a huge Joseph Arthur fan, I find this release to be quite solid.
