worldrecordplayer
Is anybody really whining and complaining about this year's Solid Sound? The thrill is gone, already? Seriously? Stop.
smells like flowers
Didn't mean to start trouble here; I was a little bummed because I made a special effort to be at my computer at 10:30 (10:15, really), kept refreshing my browser until the sale started, entered my info as fast as I could, and still didn't get a ticket. Of course, I bought regular presale tickets when they came up. I did the same thing; clicked the link at exactly 10:30, typed in the password, and got the red message back: SOLD OUT. It did feel a little bait-and-switchy, because of course I bought the early worm $99 ticket instead. When they said "limited," I guess they really meant it! No, I'm not bitching, but it was a little bit disappointing to the cheapskate in me. Anyhow, at this point, waiting for the new record, and contemplating a ticket to Jazzfest. Papillon Parade
Is anybody really whining and complaining about this year's Solid Sound? The thrill is gone, already? Seriously? Stop. Agreed! I am walking up hill, both ways, in socks to get to this show. Actually, just driving from Nova Scotia..but still!
Allspread
I'm pissed off. First Wilco buys out the entire Holiday Inn in advance of the show's announcement. That is really lame, IMHO. Now I've got to rent a car drive extra miles to a motel, or go hippie camping with porto potties and no showers. And this pre sale ticket offer was a joke. They never sent me an email with the code. I have to pay 120 now for tickets? I'm a super fan, why am I being dissed? After only one show, SOLID SOUND looks sure to have jumped the shark. Walking distance for hotels is a must for large concert events - this isn't something Wilco's mgmt have figured out yet. Essential.

Three dollars and 63 cents
For starters, because it's safer for people who have been drinking (some probably all day--beer was pretty cheap last year) to be able to walk back to their hotel at the end of the night than have to drive or find a ride. I don't remember seeing any cabs last year, most likely because all of the hotels were either within walking distance or too far away for a cab. Some people will make safe, responsible choices if they have to drive, but inevitably, some won't. I hope it doesn't become a problem. As much as I enjoyed last year's festival and am looking forward to this year's, if the festival continues to grow, North Adams may not be able to accommodate it for much longer because of how few hotels there are. bill39me
So I too logged on right at 10:30 and clicked on the super early bird tickets and after typing in the secret code (Stompbox) I got so excited when checking out that I entered the wrong expiration date on my credit card which promptly rejected - by then the tickets were gone so I "settled" for the $99 ones - not complaining though... I disagree, some of the largest festivals ever have been no where near a town let alone a hotel, you don't need to look any further then Woodstock, I can't speak for the one in '99 but the first two were in the middle of no where. Not only that but the festival it self is less then 10,000 people, bands like the Grateful Dead and Phish do whole tours playing venues larger then that where the concert goers actually follow them from city to city, I'm pretty sure some of these people drank or did drugs. At least they are offering camping this year.

The buses were frequent, and dependable, and serviced areas several miles from the MOCA downtown site. It was very convenient to shuttle from my motel in Williamstown to the festival, and I had no worries regarding parking or drinking/driving.
park
You can call a taxi; they don't just drive up and down the street looking for passengers. Williamstown is not too far to travel by cab. American Cab Company(413) 662-2000 Veteran's Taxi(413) 663-8300

Although you risk getting ticketed for BUI, you most likely won't kill anyone if you run them down!
