mattsiu02
So, it means my days of seeing multiple stops on a tour are done. Maybe a two nighter like the this past weekend, but no more hitting up 4 shows a tour. And it takes the excitement out of seeing a band when you already know what they are going to play. theashtraysays
Face it, we're spoiled. Keeping in mind that the new record was officially released all of 7 days ago, it seems pretty normal to me that 1/3 or so of the setlist is promoting the new record. The rest of it will likely move around a little more as the tour wears on. It did something similar the last couple times iirc; they haven't been on the road that long after a longer than average break for them. They'll stretch out a little more. LTYT as an opener seemed like a "hey, I'll betcha this might work" moment.
mattsiu02
Yeah, opening last night's Ryman show with "Less Than You Think" was just so predictable... One song out of twenty five. Like I said in my original post, 20 of the 25 are easily predictable.
Three dollars and 63 cents
Then how about you give your ticket to somebody who doesn't care what they play? If you're so jaded before you've even seen them once on this tour, you might as well just stay home and let somebody else have a chance to see them. I saw both the Toronto shows and the show at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The set lists were fairly similar and included some songs I would've preferred not hearing in favor of some rarer ones, but I was never bored or disappointed. Even some of the old standards have new life injected in them (the latest arrangement of Poor Places is the best version of it I've heard them play), and the fact that they haven't been playing Heavy Metal Drummer and I'm the Man Who Loves You every night shows they're switching things up a bit. This tour isn't like the Evening with tour, where they were aiming for variety and digging up rarities. They're promoting a new album, so they're still figuring out how the new songs fit with the old ones. That said, haven't they played every song from TWL now?
choo-choo-charlie
For me, I guess since Wilco only stops by one place that I can easily get to while they're touring, I see them every 2-3 years. And I'm generally just psyched beyond belief to even get to go, with the way tickets are gobbled up by scalpers and re-sellers. But I'm excited to hear the new material live. And I don't mind hearing "Handshake Drugs" or "Jesus, etc." live every few years. The show I'll be attending in December will be even more special to me because it'll be the first time I will be attending a concert with both of my older brothers AND all of our spouses. I turned my oldest brother on to Wilco a few years ago and this will be his first show. I'm excited for his reaction to it all as much as my own!

Shakespeare In The Alley
I don't think a band should ever plan setlists for the few people who catch 3/4 shows a tour. I'm sure that, when it comes to rarities, they consider what they played last time they were in town more than what they played last night in some other city. If the setlists are boring, don;t follow the band around the country. It's simple.

Guest Jules
They've played 97 different songs so far on this tour. I'd say that's pretty good variety.

worldrecordplayer
Yes, the setlists have been fairly similar over this tour. I have no problem with you calling that out. And I would have no problem seeing them multiple times on this tour if I could. But no problem for me if anyone only wants to see 1 or 2 shows per tour. I only saw the Boston show, and watched Live on Letterman twice (that setlist was identical both times). I wish I could have seen more. The similarity in the setlists wouldn't stop me from going multiple times. Caught 4 shows this year, and there was not a moment of any them where I would rather have been somewhere else. Cross-referencing to another topic here, the setlists are another reason why Wilco cannot be fairly considered a "jam band."
choo-choo-charlie
I only saw the Boston show, and watched Live on Letterman twice (that setlist was identical both times). You mean a stream of the same set had the same setlist both times you watched it?

theashtraysays
Only 4 or 5 minutes worth. Could have been longer for me, but it was a great intro for aoa.
