Jams
Have you ever been so touched by the words of a song that you thought, "Damn, I wish I had written that...."? A couple of mine: "If I could choose a place to die, it would be in your arms...."Eric Clapton "Breathe out, so I can breathe you in...."Foo Fighters (Dave Grohl)
PopTodd
Several Jim Ford songs:• "...she's the prettiest damn mistake I made this year."• "I'm not crying 'cause I love you, I'm just crying 'cause I can"• "If you can get away from that guy who loves you, without breaking his heart in two, I can get away from the girl who needs me; she don't need me like I need you." I mean... DAMN!I'm sure that there are more, from other folks. Let me think on it.

PopTodd
probably a bunch of Magnetic Fields songs, too. Here's one by Merritt: "When you're old and lonelyAnd the rush of life has passedThe days go by too slowlyAnd the years go by too fast..." And, a little more poetically:"Growing older is killing a child who laughed and smiled at anything."
lamradio
And how will it be with our souls? When we meet in that spirit landWhat the human heart never knowsWill the spirit then understand? And in some celestial formWill our sorrows repeat at be?Will I still mean nothing to her?Though she is the world to me Damn, just damn... Queen Amaranthine
"I was waiting on a momentBut the moment never cameAll the billion other momentsWere just slipping all away"Flaming Lips Also, too many of Jeff Tweedy's lyrics to mention here.

Kim Bodnia
I like most of the lyrics to Around the Sun, here's a few of them: "If the world is filled with the likes of you then I'm putting up a fight" "hold on world, cause you don't know what's coming" "the water is rising you don't want to stay" "you're not hurting anybody else's chances (but) you're disfiguring your own" "Some things don't hold up over the course of a lifetime" On the other hand there are some lyrics by The Low Anthem, I like them for the simple reason that they're banal, shows you can make a song out of the daily minutia of life: "She left me here with breakfast in bedOatmeal with sugar and a hard-boiled eggThe note on the dresser said I'll be back by threeI'm going uptown, did you need anything?" "I'm going uptown, did you need anything?" Have you seen lyrics this banal? (nonetheless the song is very beaufiful)
DrNo
I'm sure I can think of more examples, but "The Trapeze Swinger" by Iron and Wine immediately comes to mind. "And please, remember me seldomlyIn the car behind the carnivalMy hand between your knees, you turned from meAnd said, 'The trapeze act was wonderfulBut never meant to last', the clown that passedSaw me just come up with angerWhen it filled with circus dogs, the parking lotHad an element of danger"
