remphish1
Going to Nashville the end of the month for a long weekend. I was in Nashville several years ago and toured the Grand Ole Opry other than that I was just driving through. What recommendations for Restaraunts, cool bars and other tourist or non-tourist things must I see? I do see a visit to Jack Daniels also in my future...
GtrPlyr
I was there a few months back, had a great time. The Country Music Hall of Fame and RCA Studio B tour are worth doing. If doing both, best bet is to get a combo ticket at the Country Music HoF as they bus you to the RCA studio and back. The Ryman Auditorium is also a must for any music fan. The Hermitage (home of Andrew Jackson) was fairly interesting too.
Smokestack Joe
Lower Broad is a fun spot, all the class bars with classic country music.
PopTodd
As GtrPlyr stated in his post:Country Music HoF is a great day. It was a LOT better done than I expected it to be and really, really, really cool. Lots of music (of course), and some artifacts that you might not expect to see.My favorite thing:Gram Parsons' nudie suit!He was a much smaller man than I thought that he was. That thing was just so cool.
Sparky speaks
The best guitar sotre in the world. Especially if you are into Martins... http://www.gruhn.com/home.html http://www.gruhn.com/catalog/mf.htm
Preferred B
Do the Ryman backstage tour if you're not there on a performance day. It's awesome.
uncool2pillow
Back in 1993 I went to an incredible cajun restaurant called Bros. If you like Cajun, it appears to still be open. http://www.broscajuncuisine.com/
remphish1
Thanks for the replys everyone...Def interested in Studio B , Ryman, Country Music HOF. Was thinking about the Pathernon replica too..I am a sucker for those type of tourist things. Anyone also know any good BBQ places too? gtrplyr I love Martins! Took the tour of the headquarters in PA. You must do that if you get a chance...I am not enough of a player though to warrant a purchase of even the low end Martin but would def buy one if I was playing! SarahC
The guitar store right next to the ryman (i think that is the one mentioned above) is really cool. When Wilco was there back in October, Jeff and Nels were going to visit, but it was closed that day for some reason. Definitely do the CMHOF. It is cool. I have not been since I was in grade school, and I remember being very impressed (gonna try to take Matt up there to see it in the near future). I was in awe because at the time they had one of John Lennon's acoustic Gibsons. Places to eat... hmm... we went to a place on the strip called Jack's, and the BBQ was awesome, the sides not so much. the corn bread was better than what my dad makes (don't tell him I said that). The Jack Daniel's distillery is a little ways out of Nashville though... I think it's in Lynchburg? I love Nashville and can't wait to go back! Have fun!! If you're ever 2 and half hours south east of Nashville, come to Chattanooga, we've got a really badass aquarium and pretty mountains and stuff
