broc
"Much of Wilco's evolution is due to the addition to the band eight years ago of Nels Cline" I would vehemently disagree with this statement, in fact I'd say it's the polar opposite. Also he says he never played in Belfast, musta been a doppelganger I saw at the Open House Festival there a few years ago then...
choo-choo-charlie
Their evolution as a live band, yes.
broc
Well it's debatable as to what their live act has evolved to, I suppose...
kidsmoke
I always love reading a Nels interview, he's so direct. Thanks for sharing this.

Can you debate that they are now a six-piece with three guitarists/two keyboards, as opposed to a quartet with two guitarists/one keyboard or a quintet with two guitars/two keyboards? howdjadoo
^^You gonna love this too(me thinks)\ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GRSH8yxWjc
choo-choo-charlie
^^ That is also worth noting. Nels certainly brings a wide palette of tones and sounds to the table. Like his playing or not, that's certainly not debatable.
ih8music
Even if you dislike Nels' playing, you can't ignore the impact he's had on the band. He's such a force, especially live, that he has influenced and evolved Wilco's music tremendously. You can say he sucks / they suck now and still agree with that statement. worldrecordplayer
Nels sucks? Do people actually say that? What?
DickDarlington
I think the Belfast statement is meant about an actual gig as opposed to the festival they did.

He sure has had an impact on the band, especially live. I know I'm in the minority here but it does very little for me (I've said this before here). I dislike hearing Impossible Germany live and Nels' noodling section at the end so usually pop out for a toilet/bar/smoke break.
