anthony
Losing Earl, Levon and Doc, it has been a sad year for (what Gram would call) American Music. RIP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyQOCJ4SUSk
kidsmoke
That was both hard and wonderful to watch. He was a true original, and played from the heart. My husband had the privilege of working on a couple of his shows when he appeared at the University of CA, Riverside, yesrs ago. Bob was so impressed with how genuine Doc was, in every way. His music was as powerful as it was because the force of his personality deepened it. Godspeed, Doc...go entertain the angels. I hear heaven's got an amazing band! LouieB
I guess it is inevitable that the musicians of his generation are passing,, but it is very sad. I saw Doc and Merle a couple times back in the 70s. They were amazing (and I saw them at the amazing Amazingrace). LouieB
Tweedling
My son was spoon fed Doc as a toddler. I'd like to think that's one of the big reasons he likes good music. To hear Doc sing "Keep On The Sunny Side" brings a smile to my face every time. Thank you, Arthel Lane "Doc" Watson. There's a snippet on the old Nitty Gritty Dirt Band "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" where Doc and Merle Travis meet for the first time. It's so cool how Doc tells Merle that he named his son after him. WOW

LouieB I was fortunate enough to see Doc several years ago at Merlefest (the festival dedicated to the memory of his son). It is awesome what he was able to do with just a guitar and his voice. Truly talented man. Merlefest was a loving legacy to his son because the festival, despite the size and the amount of acts on the lineup, it still felt like a family atmosphere. It was really neat to see Sam Bush and John Paul Jones on the same stage doing a bluegrass version of 'Whole Lotta Love'. Hopefully Merlefest will continue in the years to come. Moss
Amazing, legendary performer. Love that Travis picking style which he was amazing at. And he was a better flatpicker. RIP.
