lifegoesoff
I'm not sure if this has been discussed already but there's an interview where Jeff says that each of the songs on Wilco (The Album) are sort of a re-visit to the past eras of Wilco & I was wondering.. if you could place each song from WTA on a past Wilco album, where would you put them? The only surefire ones for me are.. Sonny Feeling - SummerteethYou Never Know - A.MOne Wing - Sky Blue SkyBull Black Nova - A Ghost Is BornYou And I - Sky Blue Sky I think it's an interesting idea. I'd like to see what everyone else thinks.

I'd like to see what everyone else thinks. I was thinking the same thing when the album came out. Glad I was proven to be right I agree with all of yours but You and I I feel like its more Summerteeth(?).also I'd say:Wilco (the song)-Yankee Hotel FoxtrotDeeper Down-Yankee Hotel FoxtrotI'll Fight-Being ThereCountry Disappeared-Sky Blue SkySolitaire- Being ThereEverlasting Everything-A Ghost Is Born I think its really cool that they made the album with their past albums in mind. And thinking about it there really arent' that many bands that could do something like that. When it comes to having each album having its own singular sound I think the comparisons to Radiohead make a lot of sense.
choo-choo-charlie
Isn't "Everlasting Light" a Black Keys song?
bleedorange
So, essentially, Wilco (the album) is nothing more than an album full of B-sides. Sounds about right.

Oddly enough, I feel like it would fit in great on The Whole Love.
lamradio
To hell with all of you. Wilco (the Album) is great. Great at mediocrity.
choo-choo-charlie
I have a confession to make: I really don't care too much for "Deeper Down."
linclink
To hell with all of you. Wilco (the Album) is great.Cam, while I won't send 'em all to hell...but I'm with you on this being an absolutely GREAT album!!!While it's not exactly a gold standard or anything, & all of this stuff is subjective...for all the grief this album gets here, the annual Village Voice Pazz & Jop Critic's Poll shows it did quite well with the major music critics...& overall it seems that it certainly didn't do bad with the critics, and/or public (very good sales Wilco wise), at large...For those interested here's how Wilco has fared over the years in that poll. I put in the first year of Son Volt's "Trace" as well...I like that album, but I'm a much bigger fan of "A.M."- but the reception for the first post-Uncle Tupelo albums was what it was. No Uncle Tupelo album before "Anodyne" made the top 40 finishers (and for a little perspective- " No Depression and Still Feel Gone, sold a combined 40,000 copies)...and you can note the number of overall voters in the poll itself explodes between "Being There" & "Summerteeth". The first Mermaid Avenue album is also a top ten finisher, while the second one makes the top 40, but finishes around the level of "A.M."."A.M." finishes the lowest...even a little lower than "Anodyne"..."Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" wins the poll in 2002..."Summerteeth" is their only other top ten finisher (though the first Mermaid Avenue is actually a top five finisher)...but "Being There", "A Ghost Is Born" & "Sky Blue Sky" all finish in similar places (the low teens)...and then both "The Whole Love" & "Wilco (The Album)" find themselves with similar finishes (the low twenties)... 22. Wilco The Whole Love (dBpm) 505 points (54 mentions)- 2011... Sales: 200,000+ 21. Wilco (The Album) (Nonesuch) 410 points (44 mentions)- 2009... Sales: 299,000+ 12. Wilco's Sky Blue Sky (Nonesuch) 649 points (62 mentions)- 2007... Sales: 389,000+ 13. Wilco: A Ghost Is Born (Nonesuch) 778 points (78 mentions)- 2004... Sales: 380,000+ 1. Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (Nonesuch) 2328 points (201 mentions)- 2002... Sales: 674,000+ 8. Wilco: Summerteeth (Reprise) 812 points (74 mentions)- 1999... Sales: 200,000+ 14. Wilco: Being There (Reprise) 264 points (26 mentions)- 1996... Sales: 300,000+ 34. Wilco: A.M. (Sire/Reprise) 157 points (16 mentions)- 1995... Sales: 150,000+(13. Sun Volt: Trace (Warner Bros) 269 points (34 mentions)- 1995) (28. Uncle Tupelo: Anodyne (Sire/Reprise) 186 points (18 mentions)- 1993... Sales: 150,000+) (4. Billy Bragg & Wilco; Mermaid Avenue (Elektra) 1243 points (113 mentions)- 1998... Sales: 277,000) (32. Billy Bragg & Wilco: Mermaid Avenue Vol. 2 (Elektra) 307 points (33 mentions)- 2000) **Note "Kicking Television: Live In Chicago" by Wilco has Sales of 114,000+, & " according to Metacritic, it was one of the top twenty-five best reviewed albums of 2005"- though it didn't make the Village Voice Poll Top 40...often live albums & comps don't get voted for... Another compilation of critic's responses to works is Meta Critic...here's how the Wilco releases, that have come out since the site started, have fared. 83-The Whole Love Sep 27, 2011 76- Wilco (The Album) Jun 30, 2009 73- Sky Blue Sky May 15, 2007 85- Kicking Television: Live In Chicago Nov 15, 2005 81- a ghost is born Jun 22, 2004 87- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Apr 23, 2002
lifegoesoff
I have a confession to make: I really don't care too much for "Deeper Down." The only song from this album that I would put ahead of it is One Wing.
lost highway
Yeah, Deeper Down is great. Is it wrong to say that Sunloathe is an even more successful version of this kind of song from them?
choo-choo-charlie
Sunloathe is a much better song!
