John Smith
Apparently he passed away yesterday. REO was not on my radar, but their music was omnipresent in my life during the mid - late 70's and early 80's.
calvino
I saw that this morning - my sister who was big REO fan in the 70's/80's, happen to be in town last night -- I didn't see the news until this morning, though. I still listen to them from time to time -- they remind me of my youth and listening to stereo with my sisters during the 70s - they are about 10 years older then me - so it was always a hoot. uncool2pillow
Damn. For about a year in my pre-adolescence they were my favorite band. Dude had some chops.
Shug
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHtb-TWhYLc Illinois has produced some great straight up, unpretentious rock!
Vacant Horizon
Did he sing the high harmonies too? Definitely a solid rock guitar player. Who doesn't love some arena rock now and. Seeing them in the early 80s must've been awesome…before we heard all their songs a million times on classic rock radio :-) Incidentally, their first few albums before hitting it big are some nice 70s rock. mountain bed
Here's one for ya, LC. As we know, Trey was a unapologetic fan of "Classic Rock" as a kid. I would assume that early REO might have been included there. But here's my thing - every time I hear the "trill section" of David Bowie (at the very end) I always think of Richrath's trill section at the tail end of REO's tune Golden Country (easily their best tune imo). Check it out sometime and see if you hear the similarity.
