scribex6
I went to my second Largo show of the week last night. On Sunday I saw Jeff’s first night of his run and on Saturday I returned for a Waxahatchee show where Jeff was one of the guest performers. I’m posting here since it’s Wilco related but feel free to delete if it’s not the right place to do so. Waxahatchee’s “Tigers Blood” is one of my favorite albums of last year. I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium and it was a thrill to see them at an intimate venue like Largo. This wasn’t a typical Waxahatchee show but twins Katie and Allison Crutchfield and actress D’Arcy Carden celebrating their shared birthday by covering favorite songs from when they were 16. They covered songs by the Flaming Lips, R.E.M., PJ Harvey, Sublime, the Breeders, Dashboard Confessional, Green Day, Tom Petty and others. The guests, who included Courtney Barnett and Kevin Morby, reminisced a little about their teen years, mostly in the 90s or early 2000s, as they talked about their song selection. So when Jeff came out he joked his teen years were closer to the Big Band era than the current era of music. He actually selected a song that he bought at 10 at a record store as a German import, noting he was very serious at that age. He sang “Heroes” by David Bowie, which I thought sounded great and was a different type of vocal from what he normally sings. All the guests including Jeff came back out for the closer, the Who’s “Baba O’Riley.” He joined in on the choruses and took a verse but mostly was next to son Spencer Tweedy on drums, proudly watching as Spencer did his best Keith Moon. It was a truly fun night of music with the magical moments that make Largo a special place.
wilcolovesyou
Wow. Just wow. Thanks for the post and I'm truly jealous, in the best way possible.
Brian F.
Ending on "Baba O'Riley" feels appropriate since it's often performed as a show closer by a band I fell in love with at 16 and have seen 82 times since: Pearl Jam.
TCP
Thanks for the recap!! Sounds like a great event. Also if any VCers don't know D'Arcy Corden, she was in two of the best TV shows in recent years: The Good Place (as a main cast member) and Barry (as a recurring character). Two comedies I highly recommend.
scribex6
Yep, big fan of both shows especially her portrayal of Janet on The Good Place.
kidsmoke
I tried so hard to get tickets for this but the site was glitching and I kept getting the page saying it wasn't yet on sale, even long after 10 a.m. Sigh. Wasn't meant to be, I guess, but it's lovely to read your review! I know it sold out very, very quickly.
