  1. Oh man, you've got an ES-335? That's one of my dream guitars! What color is it? I love those beauties.. Just never have been able to convince the wife to let me get one when I already have other guitars.. But yes, my main guitar is my 94 American Strat.. It has a rosewood fret board.. I also have a hotrail installed in the bridge position.

It's funny, but I also had a friend that had a 50th Anniv. strat.. Nice axe.. His was sunburst with a maple neck.

the 335 is Satin Red, but I've buffed it up a bit. So now, it looks like a vintage cherry. Great sounding axe. Just needed a few tweaks when it was new. Tell your wife you can find one for a decent price on ebay. Seriously -- look up satin finish es-335.

The strat is the same as your friends, but with a rosewood neck.

  2. I've done this fix -- get some really, really fine sandpaper. Take the string out of the nut and (try to) slip the sandpaper in there. Very gently sand the nut slot a bit. Put the string back, check the tuning responsiveness, etc. Repeat as necessary. I've done this on two guitars with good results.

Both fixes were for what it sounds like you are describing. It seemed to me like the nut slot was too tight and wouldn't allow the string to pass through appropriately; almost like the string tension between the tuner and the nut was more slack or looser than the rest of the string (nut to bridge).

  3. ^^That's too bad about your buddy's stolen guitar. I think my biggest issue with that guitar's playability is that it doesn't (at least mine) feel like a Les Paul. No Gibson neck profile, etc. It feels like I'm playing an Ibanez or a Fender.

Yeah -- headstock breaks are really common on Gibsons due to the angle of the headstock. Honestly, I think the build quality of Fender is better than what I've seen on new Gibson electrics.

My two main guitars are a 50th anniv. strat and a ES-335. The strat was about half the price of the 335 and is built WAY better.

  4. G. Love is the biggest fucking douche bag the universe has ever known. He's white. Somebody needs to tell him.

I agree. I dated a girl for a couple years who absolutely loved this fucking group. And I hated them. That pretty much encapsulated the entire relationship: one big eye roll.

  5. Someone at our office got electric underwear. Just like an electric blanket, only underwear -- and it plugged into the wall.

Also, another guy that works here said he was at a white elephant party and someone bought a big mac on the way over, wrapped it with duct tape and gave it as a gift. After all the gift trading / swapping, the only vegetarian at the party wound up with the still warm big mac.

  6. Very good advice, fainting goat. In the end, tone is what will sell me every time. If it sounds superb, but looks like a coffee table with strings...I'd say I'd have to use a big strap :)

I know what you mean, wrt the wow...It's a pretty close race right now. Maybe 55% to the sunburst. This is a wonderful problem to have :)

  7. I've been thinking of stripping the paint from my Tele. It currently has a thick polyurethane finish that will probably still look brand new 1,000 years from now. I'd prefer a stain or paint that is more like that found on older Fenders that will show some well earned wear. Anyone know of a site (other than Fender Forum) that has the info I'd need to get started? Thanks!
