I still remember hearing the bomb go off on ESPN's live late night telecast of Olympic results. That was pretty terrifying. I was in the Home Improvement demo when it was on i.e. I was like ten, so I used to watch it here and there, I take it it hasn't aged well? --Mike

It was a done deal yesterday, but Louisville is making a lot of noise about wanting to come too. I think they are in a better position in terms of money and can buy their way out of the Big East and take less of a cut in the Big 12 earlier, so they might jump us in the pecking order, but all indications I'm getting from people I know in the WVU athletic department is that WVU will eventually be coming along and that the Big 12 is eventually going to go back to a 12 team league, with TCU, WVU, Louisville and either University of Cincinnati or BYU as the teams replacing A&M, Mizzou, Nebraska

I now have a vested interest in the Big 12 since the conference has decided "900 miles away from closest opponent and all" West Virginia U. is coming in to replace Missouri or be #11 if they change their mind at the last minute. It's unfortunate it had to come to this, but the Big East is no longer tenneable as a football league. Hopefully this conference stuff will settle down for awhile after this round (said like a man who's team just upgraded.). I'm looking forward to eventual roadtrips to Austin, Norman, Manhattan, hell even Ames, Iowa, I'm going to party like I'm Larry Eustachy. --Mike

Do you want to talk about.....I didn't think so!!

Excellent list, I feel like all of these guys are a Wes Anderson soundtrack inclusion away from a hipster resurgence. I've seen Doc Watson live several times through making the trek to Merlefest over the years, John Hartford is a favorite as well as Tim Buckley, his late sixties albums particularly Goodbye and Hello are as good as just about anything. --Mike Some Tim Buckley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtU-9EMSYu0 -
I don't count Candyfloss/A Shot in the Arm as Summerteeth proper personally, I feel like that album ends with In A Future Age. The extra stuff on CD I view as bonus tracks as I would with a re-issue. Candyfloss is a great extra cut, and the A Shot in the Arm remix is interesting, it's more of a curiosity than an improvement on the actual track, but it's cool to have. --Mike

Wilco The Song got one too.

Good selections, but I feel like Misunderstood has to go into Far Far Away. --Mike

Your favorite opening ACTS of all-time, ever?

Holy shit, what an incredible list. Just one of those gigs would be incredible. The Specials! The Buzzcocks! The Clash! Joy Division! Wow. --Mike -

My best guess would be that might have happened at an earlier show (they were through Memphis on the Being There tour in 97, but according to Wilco base no boot of that one is out there). --Mike

It was the first one for me, which might be why it's my favorite. A few of the songs took longer for me to appericate than others, but now I really see it as a masterpiece really. I know there's that Stirrat quote "the story of Summerteeth is Jay bought a mellotron," but all those layers really work for me I love the way it sounds.

Good question, Kidsmoke. Probably I'd put it in between Summerteeth and Sky Blue Sky in guessing where it would fit in the general consensus (does that feel right?). In my personal list it's with Being There and A Ghost is Born, sonedays it's number three, some days it's number five in the middle pack (Summerteeth and YHF are my two favorites). --Mike

Thanks for the info, I'd heard that there was a disc out there called And Sum aren't, but had never seen the tracklisting on it.

Olivia's interviews were incredible, when she talked about the stabbing I was completely revited. If I was a bit more of a casual fan I think I'd have been more intrigued by the Beatle section, but having not only watched the Anthology seven or eight times all the way through but the even longer director's cut, there was some rehashing. The solo years were a bit more interesting to me. Though (also a huge Python fan) I think Eric Idle gets a check everytime he makes the "it was the world's most expensive cinema ticket" joke about George financing Life of Brian, because he's said that exact lin

I love Harry Shearer in that scene. He has two lines that are perfect, first when he suggests the choreography be planned out so the dwarves don't crush the model and then "well I've got a question. Are we going to do Stonehedge tomorrow?" --Mike

Wow, I'd never heard that before. I clicked on honestly expecting it to be the slow version of Monday from the second DVD in the I'm Trying To Break Your Heart documentary, but that demo does sound pretty legit. Hope more like it will surface one day.

Was this as good/better than Lennon 8 years later??

Back to the Egg is a gem, there are some great cuts on that one. I enjoy most of Wings output, Speed at Sound has some pretty low moments, but even that one is pretty interesting. -
If I had to guess a mean, it would probably look like: YHF AGIB BT ST SBS AM WTA Maybe Being There and AGIB would flip, but that would be my guess. SBS has the highest variety of rankings. YHF or WTA would probably have the least, YHF being on or near the top in almost every list. WTA being on or near the bottom. --Mike

For me, I think it's All Things Must Pass Ram Band on the Run Plastic Ono Band Brainwashed With Imagine and Red Rose Speedway, McCartney and McCartney II in there as honorable mentions. --Mike -

Sorry for the bad video, don't think he did this one live very much. -
I feel like I can start quoting Spinal Tap scenes verbatim faster than I can remember my mother's middle name (it's Eileen, but I had to think about it. "Really puts a perspective on things doesn't it? Too much, now there's too much fucking perspective." that's immediate. I'm probably going to hell (hole) for this.) --Mike
