Problem Signing In (just last 2 days)
mpolak21 replied to roadhse ma's topic in Speakers Speaking In Code
If you have any continued problems with this and are no longer able to post or access PM's, we've created a catchall e-mail for technical problems that our admins can access. Please contact viachicago@rocketmail.com, and we'll get right on it. Thanks, Mike -
I feel like Wilco's most McCartney-esque tune in my mind is Hummingbird which has a bit of a Penny Lane quality in the piano and the Martha My Dear string part on viola. Would love to hear them back him up on just about anything from the Get Back-era, and Jeff's talked about his love for Wings Over America, the big live LP from the seventies before. --Mike

Hello friends, Recently we've have a wave of very unfortunate technical difficulties that have prevented some of our members from logging in. To help us more efficiently service any of the problems, I have created an e-mail account that my fellow admins and I will be able to access. Please feel free to contact us at viachicago@rocketmail.com and we will see what we can do to help. --Mike

Another classic from the first era of Fleetwood Mac, Albatross or as John Lennon likes to call it, Sun King.

All right, I'll check that set out. Thanks for the recommendation. I do like seventies reggae and early British ska quite a bit, but for some reason I've never connected with a lot of Marley's stuff. I'll dig deeper and start there.

I guess between our tastes we'd make a diehard Pink Floyd fan. Because I love the Syd era, and around Meddle (really Dark Side) I start to check out. I like the song "Wish You Were Here," but have never really had much of a love for anything else on that record. I am not much of a fan of anything after that. --Mike

The demos may be pretty close to this set: http://wilcoarchive.com/Wilco%20Bragg%20-%20Mermaid%20Ave%20Demos/. Which anyone who wants it already has. Hopefully I'll find something about this box that makes me want to buy it, but I am really struggling to see the appeal of it. It's not like what we already have needs an audio upgrade. --Mike

Excellent idea. Good choices so far. Just about every show that's really worth having is either on Owl and Bear or in the process of getting to Owl and Bear, but if you see any setlist that looks intriguing on Wilcobase and can't find it at the Wilco archive, let me know. I might not have it, but I probably know someone who does. --Mike

Bob Marley is probably my biggest one. I have heard all the songs on Legend. Redemption Song is the only one that I really love (and I sort of prefer Joe Strummer's version). I don't have an active dislike for any his stuff, but I have just never been compelled to listen to it all that much or explore him further. --Mike

An NCAA championship in football or men's basketball for West Virginia University. --Mike

I felt like Tom Scharpling said it best, "that was like a Nazi death camp with worse music." I thought Madonna was fine last night. It was a huge spectacle and kinda hard to follow, but the performance was pretty interesting. --Mike

The complete performances of the 1999, 2004, and 2007 were passed along to JHamm, who ran the DVD project, by someone in the know, so full videos of those shows circulate and are pretty easy to find here. Hopefully something like that will eventually happen with this set, but be patient with it, it took (in the case of the 1999 performance) ten years for it to come out. --Mike

Survey: top 20 saddest songs of all time

Grandaddy has quite a few of them but this one takes the cake for me: -
"You're so good at waiting... I'm just saying. I'm just saying."

I think we have a different read on this. I don't think the tenor here is that all Wilco albums should be given 10.0's, in fact, a lot of people think they overrated Wilco The Album. But I do agree falling back on the "pitchfork builds bands up, they get big, and then they break them down on their next album" is a little simplistic. I find the site has a generally pretty good read on when bands start going downhill or at least release albums of subpar quality.

I'd put them more like this: Summerteeth: 10.0 Mermaid Ave 2: Wilco's half gets an 8.5, Billy's gets a 5.5. YHF: 10.0 More Like The Moon: 7.0 AGIB: 9.3 KT: 8.0 SBS: 6.3 WTA: 5.8 TWL: 8.6 Don't have the iTunes session yet, can't rate it.

We used to have a VC Group on Facebook a few years back, then they switched everything around and I'm not sure if it's still there. --Mike

I think Michael started sitting in with the band in August of 2002. He used to sit beside Glenn with only a power book, by the October shows in 02, he had a keyboard rig of his own.

After a quick spotcheck of the AdminCP, I can't quite find what's causing this problem. But hang tight, we'll see what we can do to get this cleared up in the next few days for you. --Mike

Yeah, I was willing to throw down for Smile, because I have always been obsessive with that album. I'd like to read the stuff that comes with the Quadrophenia box, but that was something I saw and thought yeah I'll bit torrent that, listen to it once, and save the hundred plus dollars. Sorry, Pete. With a YHF box it would be all about the packing and the bonus stuff they have. They are well aware most of the market for a YHF boxset already has the bootleg versions of the demos, so hopefully they'll go digging. I wonder how much live footage from the shows Sam Jones filmed for I am trying to

Personally, I'd like a few more years before Wilco starts doing this with their albums.

The entire concert became available (along with the 04 and 07 performances) a few years ago. Traditionally bands play up to an hour and a half set that is then edited into what is broadcast in their portion of Austin City Limits. Someone close to the production side of things made the full Wilco sets available to JHamm, so those are also in circulation. --Mike
