  1. Squeeze returned to a sold out Beacon Theatre in NY last night. Joining Glenn and Chris on bass was John Bentley from the glory days of East Side Story. On drums and keys were two blokes from Glenn's current solo band -- the Fluffers. First, Fountains of Wayne opened and set the stage perfectly. They were gracious and (appropriately) said on several occasions what an honor it was to be opening for Squeeze. Highlights from their set for me were Hackensack, Radiation Vibe and Hey Julie. Everyone stood up and cheered for Stacy's Mom. Go figure. Squeeze hit the stage at 9:15 with Take M
  2. Haha, I guess I should have known that asking for suggestions would yield a ton of different opinions... Thanks to everyone for weighing in. I think I will pick up Daydream Nation given its quintessential status, and either Goo or Sonic Nurse (given my O'Rourke love).
  3. This is why I would love a vote in these kinds of things, but would never get one. I'd be the guy casting the lone vote for Steve Balboni's or Jesse Orosco's baseball hall of fame candidacy.
  4. At the risk of bringing the Wrath of Analogman (WOA) on me (dude, I searched for a thread on this, I SWEAR!), and in keeping with the many other "where do I start with [iNSERT BAND NAME]" threads floating around out there, I was hoping someone could point me in a good direction on Sonic Youth. Dont know anything by them, but I suppose that I keep hearing Daydream Nation is their best... Is that right? Where should a newbie start? Which albums was O'Rourke on? Etc. Gracias.
  5. Hey Nerdy - I will let you take this statement back. But just this one time. Tough game last night for your boy.
  6. Songs like this, and threads like this, are why I can't understand when people lament the "direct" and/or "lazy" lyrics on this album. I think this album has the best lyrics Tweedy has ever written.
  7. Holy shit you just blew my mind.
  8. Couldn't agree more. Most seem to lament the absensce of Jools Holland (or even Carrack) on this tour, and while I agree, I think I'll miss Gilson as much if not more.
  9. If they dont kill each other first, I wouldn't be surprised to see them hit the midwest. I think Glenn does alright for himself these days, but he's not selling out the Beacon in NYC by himself.
  10. I love you And. Would be great for him to bring some Halloween Head to NYC... Great call. I've already got my hopes up.
  11. First concert I ever saw was Squeeze at a sold out MSG for the Babylon and On tour. My first favorite band. Have seen them and Tillbrook several times since. Always a blast, and it's gonna be great to have Chris back on stage harmonizing with Glenn. The older I get, the better these guys are. Difford is a criminally underrated lyric writer and Glenn has written some timeless hooks and melodies. I have tix to the Beacon theater show on Friday. Will report back. Can't wait. EDIT: to answer your question -- they will sound great. Glenn tours constantly these days (solo and with his ba
  12. So all these shows, all these new tour dates, some in cities he's been to already recently, and not one show in NYC? On this tour he played one show in NYC that was announced at the last minute, at a venue WAY too small to hold all fans, on the same night as Wilco in Brooklyn? What's going on here? It's bizarre.
  13. Gagne has thrown 3 playoff innings. And his ERA is 12.00 in the all-star game... Should be interesting to see him on the mound in the Bronx in September. I happen to think he'll be fine and this is a great pickup, but it's gonna be fun.
  14. WFAN in nyc is reporting that the Gagne deal is done and that he will be pitching the 8th.
  15. Yes, i assumed Gagne comes for the 8th inning when I made my statement that this was bad for my rotisserie team. Gagne is an expensive set-up man for me. I agree with Lammymeow that this issue could hold up the trade from Gagne's perspective.
  16. And bad news for my rotisserie keeper team. Dangit!!
  17. Castillo has a higher OBP than SLG for his career. That is not easy to do. As a Mets fan this worries me.
  18. Rumors I am hearing (from various websites, that is): Luis Castillo to the Mets. Dotel to the Braves. Dye to the Red Sox. Contreras to the Greater Chicago Home for the Elderly.
  19. I fucking hate cancer. RIP Bill.
  20. Yes. EDIT: not that this needs clarification, but I'd rather have knuckleheads like Sheffield speaking their mind than robots like ARod worried about how their comments will impact their marketability.
  21. Sports needs more douchebags willing to speak their minds these days.
